The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid showcased a modern and sleek design with significant styling updates. The rear end of the Sonata, already equipped with a lightbar, now resembled the all-new Hyundai Santa Fe, forming a wide “H” shape with the taillights. From the side, the 2024 Sonata maintained a similar profile to the 2023 model, with standard 18-inch alloy wheels on the Preferred-Trend trim and 19-inch wheels on the N Line trim in Canada. The interior saw changes with a redesigned dash, a new T-shaped steering wheel, and a relocated gear shifter to the steering column, enhancing the overall driving experience.

In contrast, the 2025 Toyota Corolla retained its design from the 2020 model year, with minor updates to keep it fresh. The Corolla sedan was mostly inoffensive in appearance, aside from its insect-like front face. Inside, simplicity was the guiding principle, with a newly available 10.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the XSE trim in Canada. This system lacked volume and tuning knobs, requiring drivers to adapt to using the steering wheel controls. The interior featured a mix of inexpensive plastic and upscale elements like a soft dashboard pad, quality fabric, and a smooth leather-wrapped steering wheel. Despite its age, the Corolla managed to maintain a sense of modernity and practicality.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid introduced an all-wheel drive (AWD) system for the first time, available on the Preferred-Trend trim for an additional $2,000. The N Line trim remained front-wheel-drive (FWD) only. The Preferred-Trend trim was powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The N Line trim offered a turbocharged version of the same engine, delivering 290 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque, with power transferred via an 8-speed wet-clutch dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The 2025 Toyota Corolla, on the other hand, came with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 169 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 151 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. While not class-leading in power, it was sufficient for everyday driving. The Corolla utilized a Dynamic Shift continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a gearset for quick acceleration, transitioning to a pulley-system CVT for smoother and quieter speed gathering. The Corolla's ride and handling were sound, with the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform enhancing its driving dynamics. Fuel efficiency was a highlight, with the gas-only Corolla rated at 6.7–6.8 litres per 100 kilometres combined, and the hybrid version offering even better fuel economy.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid offered competitive interior space, with 975 millimetres of front-seat headroom and 950 mm of rear-seat headroom. Front legroom was prioritized at 1,170 mm, while rear-seat passengers had 885 mm. Heated and ventilated front seats were standard in the Preferred-Trend trim, and the steering wheel's slimmer rim was appreciated for comfort. The trunk featured a close button, adding a touch of convenience.

In comparison, the 2025 Toyota Corolla provided a comfortable driving position with good forward visibility, thanks to thin windshield pillars and large side mirrors. Rear seat occupants enjoyed a firm cushion with impressive leg support, though headroom was limited. Practical storage space was lacking, particularly in the centre console. The Corolla sedan offered 371 litres of cargo space, with a 60/40-split folding rear bench seat for added versatility.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid featured a selectable USB-C port for data-transmitting or charging-only functionality, complementing the wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available on all trims. The curved display combined the infotainment touchscreen and driver-information display into a single panel, with the N Line offering a pair of 12.3-inch screens. The N Line also included navigation and a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, while the Preferred-Trend trim had a smaller digital instrument cluster and a six-speaker sound system.

The system lacked knobs and buttons, requiring more attention to navigate the drill-down menus.
