2022 Nissan Pathfinder Reviews Summary

You said it and Nissan listened. The automaker is bringing back much of the heralded capability of the classic Pathfinder, as well as a rugged-ish body style, for the 2022 model year. Thoughtful innovations and features make the Pathfinder more than just a competent family hauler while Nissan’s safety tech puts minds at ease.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE Reviews Summary

A subtle refresh for the 2024 model year (launched in 2023) keeps the popular Mercedes sport-utility competitive against a wide roster of rivals, which include the BMW X5, Genesis GV70, Cadillac XT6, Acura MDX, and Volvo XC90, to name just a few.

Changes between the previous GLE and the 2024 model year consist primarily of a subtle redesign of the front grille (look closely and you’ll see it's now filled with tiny Mercedes-Benz star logos), reprofiled headlights and taillights, an updated infotainment system, and optional off-road-themed air suspension system that can raise the GLE 3 centimetres to clear obstacles. It can also shimmy this Mercedes sport-ute back and forth to help get it unstuck over tricky terrain.

Specific to our testing purposes, the 2024 GLE also ushers in a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant called the GLE 450e 4Matic. As the last part of the name suggests, like every 2024 GLE, all-wheel drive (AWD) is fitted as standard. Yet the big news is what’s under the hood of this new model, namely a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder paired with an electric motor and 23.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

While fully electrified vehicles presently grab the most automotive headlines, a week spent on a test drive of the GLE 450e highlighted how easily this luxurious PHEV sport-utility adapts to all sorts of driving situations.

2022 Nissan Pathfinder

9/10

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE

7/10

The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder showcased a bold new design that drew inspiration from the brand's latest SUV styling trends. It featured a reimagined V-motion grille, reminiscent of the Rogue and Armada, with the new Nissan logo prominently displayed. The LED headlights and slim daytime running lights added a modern touch, while the C-pillar design paid homage to the original Pathfinder. With 11 paint options and a distinctive black roof, the Pathfinder offered a robust and rugged aesthetic. The SUV's wider stance and increased height contributed to its commanding presence on the road, positioning it as a capable and adventurous choice for buyers.

In contrast, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE underwent subtle exterior updates that might have gone unnoticed by many. The front grille featured clever Mercedes star logos, and the headlights and taillights received minor tweaks. The GLE 450e model, finished in Twilight Blue metallic with 21-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels, stood out for its elegant appearance. Inside, the GLE exuded luxury with Macchiato beige and black leather upholstery, complemented by natural grain brown walnut trim. The cabin offered a high level of customization with various interior colour choices and trims, making it one of the most refined in its segment.

Performance

2022 Nissan Pathfinder

8/10

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE

8/10

The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder retained its 3.5-litre V6 engine, delivering 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a new 9-speed automatic transmission, the Pathfinder offered smooth gear transitions and improved driving dynamics. Standard all-wheel-drive in Canada, along with hill descent control and seven drive modes, enhanced its versatility. The Pathfinder's suspension provided a stable ride, and its tight turning radius made it easy to manoeuvre in urban settings. With a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds, it was well-suited for hauling needs, although the transmission occasionally required recalibration at higher speeds.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE offered a range of powertrains, including the GLE 450e with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and electric motor, producing a combined 381 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The GLE 450e accelerated from zero to 100 km/h in approximately 5.5 seconds, providing swift performance. Its fuel economy was impressive, with an estimated 4.1 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres in hybrid mode. The GLE's electric mode allowed for highway driving at speeds up to 140 km/h. The transition between gas and electric power was seamless, and the suspension absorbed road imperfections with ease, ensuring a comfortable ride.

The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder prioritized interior comfort with enhanced sound insulation and thoughtful design features. The Pathfinder provided ample cargo space, with 470 litres behind the third row and up to 2,421 litres with the second and third rows folded flat. Heated front seats were standard, and higher trims included ventilated seats and a motion-activated power liftgate.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE provided generous space for five passengers, with ample headroom and legroom in both the first and second rows. The cabin's light beige upholstery contributed to an airy feel, and visibility was excellent. The GLE offered 630 litres of cargo space behind the second row, with the option for a third row in certain trims. Comfort features included power-adjustable heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof.
