Its traditional SUV styling was evident in its tall hood, broad shoulders, and upright profile, while the grille featured laser-etched knurling, adding a touch of sophistication. The Grand Wagoneer boasted a new body-on-frame architecture, allowing for independent suspension and weight-saving features like an aluminum hood and doors. Inside, it shared some design elements with the Wagoneer but elevated the experience with high-end materials and features such as 24-way power front seats, Nappa leather upholstery, and American Walnut wood trim.

In contrast, the 2022 GMC Terrain received updates to its front styling, wheel designs, and interior trim, with the new AT4 trim level offering a bolder grille and black 17-inch alloy wheels. The Terrain AT4 was marketed as a "small off-road SUV," equipped with a steel skid plate for protection. The interior featured a black leather design with caramel-coloured contrast stitching, and the vehicle was loaded with packages like the Tech Package and Infotainment Package II. Despite its entry-level status, the Terrain aimed to provide a comfortable and practical driving experience, though some design choices, like the pushbutton transmission controls, were less intuitive.
