2021 Honda Pilot vs 2022 Kia Sorento

The 2021 Honda Pilot aimed to balance style with reliability, safety, comfort, and performance. The Sorento's interior exuded quality, with leather upholstery and simulated wood trim. The cabin's construction was solid, and the design detail was impressive, even in the most affordable models. The Sorento's interior style and practical storage space made it a compelling choice for those seeking a stylish and functional SUV.

The 2021 Honda Pilot featured a 3.5-litre V6 engine producing 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, providing a smooth and refined driving experience. The nine-speed automatic transmission and torque-vectoring AWD system contributed to its athletic handling. Fuel efficiency was reasonable, with an average of 10.9 L/100 km during testing. However, its off-road capability was limited by modest ground clearance and approach angles.

The 2022 Kia Sorento offered a range of engine options, with the turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder being the most satisfying, delivering 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. The eight-speed dual-clutch transmission provided a lively driving experience, akin to a sports sedan. Despite its energetic performance, fuel consumption was higher than expected, averaging 11.4 L/100 km. The Sorento's suspension offered a blend of compliance and composure, making it a capable and enjoyable drive.

Second-row captain’s chairs were standard from the EX trim, designed with children in mind. The third-row seat was cramped for adults, making it more suitable for occasional use. Cargo space was limited with all seats up but expanded to 2,139 litres with seats folded. The smart power tailgate added convenience for loading.

The 2021 Honda Pilot featured an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Higher trims offered navigation, wireless charging, and a premium audio system. The system was adequate but lacked some modern features, and voice recognition required specific prompts.

The 2022 Kia Sorento offered an 8-inch or 10.25-inch touchscreen, with the latter providing navigation and Kia Connect services. The infotainment system was feature-rich and intuitive, though the design might not appeal to everyone.
