2021 Dodge Durango Reviews Summary

Though the current generation of Durango is aging, Dodge continues to update it to keep it relevant in an increasingly competitive SUV marketplace. For 2021, the story continues with the new SRT Hellcat variant, the most powerful SUV ever, and the available Tow N Go Package.

2022 BMW X3 Reviews Summary

Since its inception in 2003, the BMW X3 has grown to become one of the brand’s top sellers. And starting with its second generation (circa 2010), the luxury compact crossover has been built at BMW Spartanburg—the automaker’s only manufacturing facility north of the Mexican border. Incidentally, because Spartanburg is the global producer of every gas-powered BMW crossover besides the X1 and X2, the plant also boasts the highest production numbers of any BMW plant worldwide. One can speculate that the popular X3 has a lot to do with that.

Last redesigned for 2018, the X3 receives a rather hefty mid-cycle refresh for 2022. Updates include design tweaks, new engines, more technology, and an expanded suite of safety features. (Interestingly, while the BMW X3 xDrive30e plug-in hybrid has been dropped from the lineup in the United States, it continues in 2022 in Canada. This model is not covered in this review.)

2021 Dodge Durango

8/10

2022 BMW X3

7/10

The 2021 Dodge Durango maintained its muscular and athletic styling, reminiscent of its Charger and Challenger siblings. This was particularly evident in the high-performance SRT Hellcat model, which featured a cold-air scoop, twin-pipe exhaust, LED headlamps, and a rear spoiler. The Durango offered a variety of wheel options and came in 11 exterior colours with six interior schemes. Inside, the 2021 model introduced a modern instrument panel and a choice between an 8.4-inch or 10.1-inch touchscreen with the Uconnect 5 infotainment system. The interior materials ranged from cloth to premium leather, with options for contrast stitching and unique seat belt colours, enhancing its appeal.

The 2022 BMW X3 presented a slightly more aggressive exterior design with a larger kidney grille and adaptive full LED headlights. The rear featured new taillights with a pincer claw-shaped design and larger exhaust tips. The X3 was available in nine finishes, with new metallic colours introduced. Standard 19-inch wheels were paired with all-season run-flat tires, and an optional aerodynamically optimized wheel was available. The M Sport Package added sporty elements like larger air intakes and a sportier rear bumper. Inside, the X3 offered a clean and efficient design with a variety of trim options, power-adjustable seats, and a panoramic moonroof. The interior colour choices varied by material, and ambient lighting added to the overall ambiance.

The 2021 Dodge Durango offered four engine options, including a 3.6-litre V6, a 5.7-litre HEMI V8, a 392 HEMI V8, and a supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI V8. The V6 engine produced up to 295 horsepower, while the 5.7-litre V8 delivered 360 hp. The 392 HEMI V8 offered 475 hp, and the supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI V8 in the SRT Hellcat model boasted an impressive 710 hp. All engines were paired with eight-speed automatic transmissions, and AWD was standard in Canada. The Durango's performance was complemented by smooth acceleration and precise steering, although the chassis showed its age on rough roads. The SRT models featured performance pages for tracking vehicle metrics, and the R/T model offered a Tow N Go Package with a towing capacity of 8,700 pounds.

The 2022 BMW X3 featured an eight-speed automatic transmission across all models. The xDrive30i variant was powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-100 km/h time of 6.3 seconds. The M40i model included a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with a mild-hybrid system, generating 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, achieving 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The M40i offered a more dynamic driving experience with features like a sports exhaust system, adaptive suspension, and a rear-oriented torque split. The mild-hybrid system provided additional power but did not significantly improve fuel efficiency.
