2021 Chevrolet Tahoe Reviews Summary

The full-size SUV segment is a relatively small one, and Chevrolet dominates it. The Tahoe, and its extended-length twin, the Suburban, account for about half of all big SUV sales despite competitive shortcomings in terms of interior comfort, cargo space, and towing capability. With the all-new 2021 Chevy Tahoe (and Suburban), two of those three flaws are resolved. At the same time, the 2021 Tahoe gets a big upgrade in terms of driving dynamics, technology, and innovation.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Reviews Summary

Jeep is now a luxury brand. That's why the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L mid-size SUV can ask, with a straight face, that you pay $75,000 or more for the privilege of ownership. A $60,000 Wrangler or a $100,000 Grand Wagoneer doesn't seem snooty, while a Mercedes-Benz or a Lexus sure does. Jeep's heritage as a hardcore 4x4 brand and its newer image as a bougie city truck maker can coexist. We drove a Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve to prove it.

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe

7/10

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L

9/10

The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe offered a diverse range of trims, each with distinct styling elements that set them apart. The base LS and LT trims featured unique grille patterns, while the RST trim boasted a sporty blacked-out look with 22-inch wheels. The Z71 trim was designed for off-roading, incorporating a rugged front end, red tow hooks, and all-terrain tires. The Premier trim added chrome accents and polished wheels, and the High Country trim exuded luxury with a chrome bar grille and bright-finished 22-inch wheels. The Tahoe's design was characterized by its dominant grille and expressive taillights, with a more subtle overall styling compared to its predecessor. The SUV's appearance improved with larger wheels, and it offered a variety of wheel designs up to 22 inches. Pricing for the Tahoe ranged from $57,048 for the base LS to $81,448 for the High Country, with the Z71 trim tested at $80,293, including various option packages.

Inside, the Tahoe's interior was centred around a 10.2-inch infotainment screen and new electronic transmission controls, which improved storage capacity but compromised control layout. The cabin featured a mix of exposed stitching, soft-touch surfaces, and hard plastics. The LS trim came with cloth seats, while leather was standard from the LT trim onwards. The Premier and High Country trims offered perforated leather in various colours. The Tahoe's interior quality met expectations, with the Z71 trim providing a comfortable and well-appointed cabin.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, with its extended length, offered a refined and elegant design that maintained Jeep's recognizable features. The seven-slot grille, U-shaped wheel arches, and modernized lighting contributed to its sophisticated appearance. The Grand Cherokee L's interior was luxurious, featuring dual high-resolution screens, real wood, aluminum, and Palermo leather seating. The cabin's design and tactile quality were reminiscent of a premium vehicle, with attention to detail and contrast. The Grand Cherokee L provided ample space in all rows, with captain's chairs as standard in the second row and an optional 60/40 split bench. The panoramic roof and numerous USB ports enhanced passenger comfort, though the air vents were noted to be insufficient in airflow.

Performance

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe

8/10

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L

7/10

The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe offered three engine options, including a standard 5.3-litre V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, a 6.2-litre V8 exclusive to the High Country trim with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, and a turbocharged 3.0-litre diesel inline-six with 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The diesel engine was not available for the Z71 trim due to its unique off-roading components. The Tahoe's 10-speed automatic transmission powered the rear wheels, with four-wheel drive optional on base trims and standard on others. The Z71 trim included a two-speed transfer case, hill descent control, and all-terrain tires. The Tahoe's towing capacity reached up to 3,810 kilograms, with a payload capacity of 831 kilograms. The independent rear suspension, along with Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride suspension options, significantly improved ride quality and handling. The 5.3-litre V8 engine, coupled with the 10-speed transmission, delivered refined performance and ample power, while Dynamic Fuel Management technology enhanced fuel efficiency.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L offered two engine options: a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and a 5.7-litre V8 with 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. The V6 engine was found to be underpowered for the vehicle's weight, with engine noise intruding into the cabin. The V8 engine, available on higher trims, provided better performance and a pleasing sound. The Grand Cherokee L's eight-speed automatic transmission had early upshifts that did not complement the V6 engine, though manual mode with paddle shifters offered some improvement. The V6's fuel efficiency was rated at 13.0 L/100 km city, 9.4 highway, and 11.3 combined, while the V8 was less efficient at 16.7 L/100 km city, 10.9 highway, and 14.1 combined. The Grand Cherokee L's chassis was praised for its ride composure and steering feel, with the optional air suspension offering adjustable ride height settings for various driving conditions. The Grand Cherokee L's towing capacity was 3,265 kilograms.

The Laredo and Altitude trims came with an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims offered a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe's standard 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system offered wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a voice-recognition system, and Chevrolet Connected Services. The system was user-friendly, though the main-menu shortcut icons were somewhat hard to use due to their recessed position. The voice-recognition system was impressive, accurately responding to natural prompts. The test vehicle featured a wireless charging pad and a mid-grade Bose audio system. The Rear Seat Media system offered versatility, though it was not fully tested. The Tahoe also offered an available 15-inch head-up display.
