What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 are quite satisfied, praising its power, comfort, and handling. Many drivers appreciate its reliability and durability, especially for work-related tasks, off-roading, and long trips. However, some do mention that gas mileage could be better, and a few find the height and driving dynamics less than ideal for their preferences."
Just exactly what I was looking for! The automobile was in great condition & a good value
November 4, 2025A solid truck with just performance lacking on the V8 5.8L engine - dont even THINK about getting the V6 thinking your going to save on gas - with traffic your not going to be flying anyway. Everything else on this truck, from looks (when its not all banged up) to interior comfort is very high, as all SLT GMC models are - much better in these "older" sierra classic models than the newer ones.

March 18, 2022* Performance - acceleration, braking, handling are what you expect from a truck * Build Quality - 85,000 miles and no rattles or strang noises to report, transmission internal part replaced under warranty * Appearance - Interior is a bit dated by todays standard, but the seats rock and the exterior is classic GMC goodness. * Cost of Ownership - Gas mileage not to bad, 15-16 in town and 18-23 on the open road. * Fun Factor - its has its moments of joy.
September 23, 2010Comfortable ride for a truck. Seats are comfortable. Extended cab not too cramped. We've owned our 05 for about 8 years. It's been very mechanically dependable, Infrequent trips to the shop, and those have not been expensive. We only have the 2 wheel drive, but it's very adequate for what we use it for (mainly brush hauling, or transporting cargo). Doesn't do bad in our Illinois snow.
May 12, 2015Love the way this truck rides, handles and drives all together. The gas is just a bit of a stickler. Ohter than that the brakes are phenomenal and you forget you are driving its so nice. It's just you and the road.
November 26, 2011This truck primarily used in a farm setting. Being used to haul hay, check fence and drive off road. It also makes 2 trips from KY to FLA for vacations twice a year and it performs like it should in both roles. Good durability across streams, rocks and muddy conditions. Great road manners and decent mileage for a cew cab. I got rid of my 2007 Nissan 4X4 Crew for a more reliable 2005 GMC.
March 2, 2010Performance - Not stock anymore :P Build Quality - Built in Indiana, Solid and no repairs Appearance - Not stock either :P Cost of Ownership - just keep it pretty and regular upkeep, gas mileage not stock either ;) Fun Factor - REAL BLAST TO DRIVE!!
September 11, 2009This truck drives great. It has plenty of power for everyday work use. Its a common truck which means parts are readily available. Its not great on gas but its a truck so that is to be expected. I have had mine for about a month and Im very happy with it.
May 20, 2021great gas miles for 4wd with tires n lift...24 on road. removed all the badges, and put painted/chrome handles all the way around, tinted the windows, head reast dvds for kids. would love a new one...but this is a keeper!
