2002 Subaru Impreza: Prices, Reviews & Pictures

I bought 2002 Outback Sport July 2001 (early production model) its been the most dependable car Ive owned in my 8 decades. I can still take my hands off the wheel at 80 mph and it will track straight and true. With auto trans 0-60 is a bit compromised but passing by dropping the auto to 3 is very brisk. Still not a speck of rust outside, inside, upside or down. I put aside money for a new luxury sports sedan but cant see any reason to switch rides -- love my Subie.Dec 20, 2022

Excellent handling, stylish, irreplaceable sound, comfortable but poor engine performance. High gas mileage but fun to drive compensate everything negative. Poor braking but tough and rigid body. Addictive car, though there is none in that category to really run against it. EVO is nothing compared to Impreza. No excessive electronics, and unpredicteable on roads. Men like adrenaline giving cars. Drive Subaru.May 02, 2011

Its sure not the fastest car but it is quick for being a 2.5L boxer 4 without a turbo. Braking with the right setup is awesome The car is a BLAST to drive especially in the winter and a fun summer cruiser It takes a big heart to like the appearance of some subarus but its an awesome look cost of ownership isnt bad one bit. except for some parts lol Sep 07, 2010

My car has pretty good acceleration for it being stock. Handleing is great and it being AWD is the best thing about it because it has awsome handleing. I have to admit it is really dirty though because i live on a farm an it has a dirt driveway so its imposible to keep clean, and there is some chipping paint on the hood from stones and debris coming from other vehicles. i try to keep the interior as clean as i can. I love to drive this car its a great ride.Aug 20, 2010

Bullet proof car on a budget. Great to learn how to drive an AWD car fast. Good car to learn how to drive fast anyway. Handled good but handled way better after bigger sway bars and linkage. It's definitely a momentum car. Jul 13, 2010

I am glad I made this purchase! She's a pretty good car...a few little quirks, but nothing major, and everything has seemed to work well so far *knock on wood*! There are some things that I have to repair or upgrade on it, such as the suspension and the dash clock, but otherwise it's been a good ride.Feb 15, 2010

I think I can safely say that I bought a lemon. In the first 2 and a half months of me owning it, it has been in the shop for 4 weeks (and counting!) the performance is pretty bland (I know I could have gotten a wrx or STI) the handling is pretty good, but the transmission is garbage, I have been driving a manual for a long time, and I have never had clutch issues until now. This could have been an amazing car, but there are too many issuesJan 20, 2010

Great car and very reliable. Has a lot of power for a 4 and can beat out most 6s. Not a fan of the look of the back end, but i love the look of the front. Hands like better then any car Ive ever driven. Stereo system could of been a little .Dec 07, 2009

Quick, fun and great in the snow. The AWD is incredible. Looks cool with the little wing. Little upkeep cost. Handling is awesome with the AWD. Braking is not very impressive. Definitely a good buy. I recommend this to anyone that needs a cool car that tears up the snow. Oct 27, 2009

Its all good homie!!! The handling, turning and all wheel drive make it an enjoyable vehicle to drive. The winter is the most convenient time to drive in any amount of snow. Never forget to change your oil every 5 thousand miles!!!!!Sep 27, 2009

Performance is good for an N/A 4cyl. Fit and finish is great for a car in this price range. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I love it's classic look! Fun ? Drive one, see what you've been missing. Sep 15, 2009

My husband and I bought our Subaru when we became parents and it has held up beautifully! It is a small car but holds everything we need for a weekend getaway easily. It has only needed one repair (aside from the scheduled maintenance) and the brakes and tires are still ticking along. I can haul kid stuff, park easily, and the car cleans up nicely. I love my little Impreza Outback, it is a perfect mama car and I feel safe driving it in rain and snow in the Northwest!Dec 16, 2008

I love it not only because Its way better looknig than any of the imprzas since 02. but nothing beats the assurity you get with AWD its so practical/ versatile. its compact and so easy to drive if you just want to cruise yet you know you've got the power and perfrmance on demand whenever you need it. The interior is comfortabel and ergonomic then theres the unmistakeable sound of the engine. What I don't like is that everyone thinks its a WRX and wants to race you Aug 31, 2008

Well, I don't really drive my car hard, but the acceleration is pretty good, braking is excellent and the handling is even better. The only things I notice are squeaks during the winter and the odd rattling from the exhaust heat shields. The car has some rust, but what car doesn't? The interior is amazing; I consider it to be one of the best (other than the 04/05 WRX). The exterior in my opinion is the best from Subaru. From the headlights to the tail lights, she's got it all. Not sure about gas mileage, but it's definately cheaper than the family van, lol. Maintenance is the same as any other manual car. Heck yes, this car is amazing. WRX or STi would be even better though. ;)Aug 24, 2008

Subaru know how to build cars. This thing could take corners at break-neck speeds and never let up. Loves to hang onto the road, corners on rails, super comfortable and super reliable. I put a beautiful exhaust and modest BOV on it... and it sounded just the way a Rexx should. May 10, 2008

I really do love my Impreza. I have wanted one since I saw them doing rally in the WRC. Overall, it is an awesome car. It has nearly all the practicality you could need (expect a fold down rear seat). It is a blast to drive, the gearing is so close and quick. When I first got it, it was kind of fugly. but the right mods really brought it around. Stock, it also pushes and rolls too much, though on the street, you have so much grip you don't notice. I do a lot of auto-x and it is a great choice for this, the 2.5L motor is more responsive then the WRX motor, so it may even be better for this. But the fact I can't turbo it without the motor blowing and it still costing a fortune, makes a WRX look like a much better choice. If you want to go fast, the WRX is the only choice, it has so much more potential for very little more price. The RS is perfect first car, a good commuter, and a good choice for a fun, if somewhat average, daily car. Would get an older one or a WRX if I bought it again, but I still love it.Apr 01, 2008

After someone hit my Cobalt, I took my dad's Impreza. The all-wheel drive is fun, but the interior is pretty low-quality, and the exterior isn't very nice. Since the TS is the base model, expectations shouldn't be very high. The motor has a unique sound that definitely isn't American. SInce the wagon isn't attractive, I don't like being seen in it. That means I won't upgrade what I don't like about it. The audio is a definite improvement, featuring bass that the Cobalt couldn't support until I installed subwoofers. I'm not impressed with this particular year even though I do think that Subaru makes good cars. Try a higher model if you want to consider an Impreza.Mar 15, 2008

lack of window sills creates air noise, the AT tranny and 165lb/ft of torque make it a little sluggish, but the brakes and handling are amazing, the AWD is a blast, with a few mods it looks quite pretty (especially some black 18s), and it's still got plenty of room for friends, cargo, and a solid audio systemDec 27, 2007
