Ive had my 996 for 15 years. Great car, reliable, really fun to drive in good weather. 0-60 in 4.7 and great through the curves. Love it still.

You will read lots about this model of the 911 (called the 996) and see that it has a IMS bearing that fails and destroys the engine. And that is possible. About 5% 1999-2004 have failed. If you shop for a car that has maintenance records and you have the oil changed and check the filter for metal bits you should be ok. I chose this car carefully, then I took the car in and had the IMS bearing replaced with an aftermarket one with a warranty. This will cost an additional $3k, but it is worth it as a new engine will cost $10k+. The 911 model before the 996 is the 993, and one will run you 45 to 80k. The 911 model after the 996 is the 997 and one of those will run you 35 to 50k. That makes this model a bargain, and a very fun car to own.

the 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera is very fun to drive attention getter, also the convertible is the best on a summer day. Since I owned my first Porsche being the 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera has been the best car I have ever owned not only the handling of car and smooth ride, the best thing I love of my Porsche is that its very fast and holds its title. The car has not given me no problem's. the only thing I have to say if you can afford to buy a Porsche buy one you will love it just one thing maintenance like oil changes can be high priced. Or service for Porsche. Other then that just fun lots of fun .

Best car ever guys... anyone who has driven this thing knows it's a flipping monster.This care does everything you want and more. Expect maintenance to be costly, but if you can get this car.... GET THIS CAR!. Fast as hell, handles like crazy, and the all wheel drive is phenominal.

The car is stunning in every respect. Build quality, performance, looks, handling, feel are all 9 or 10 out of 10. It simply blows away most Ferraris. I drove this car for 10,000km and it didn't miss a beat. Even on a track day, it was keeping up with race cars.

Baring the interior look and feel, this is a 21+ year car after all, this is still a great car and a great buy. The interior look was on-par with most vehicles of its day. It has all the necessary features for a sports car and nothing too fancy. It has 300hp and can pull to 60mph in anywhere from published 4.5-5.2 seconds. Not many modern cars can do this even now. The only reason that it doesnt stay on peoples radars are that its water cooled, the non traditional 911 headlights, and the infamous IMS issue. The headlight you can look at as being unique in that this is the ONLY generation of 911 that doesnt have a rounded headlight, and the lights quickly become a non issue once you drive the car. The IMS was a 8% failure chance, high for any component, but not something that is inevitable as the internet leads one to believe. It plays in to the human psychology of not wanting to take a chance of blowing up a $15,000 engine for a $3000 fix. If you want an inexpensive 911, this is your model, the 996. Water cooled, but being water cooled results in more horsepower than any previous 911. Everything for this generation are collectibles and will run into the $80,000+ range, anything after are currently running in excess of $70,000. So, $24,000 average for a 996 is a relative bargain and you get 90% of the performance of more modern 911, without paying the upfront price. Keep in mind, maintenance doesnt get much cheaper, so you have to factor things will break, and it will cost big money. Not many local shops work on rear engine German cars, and even less want to. Reputable independent shops will cost less than dealerships, but not much less.

Great car! Fun to drive and sexy. Classic styling and tons of power. Great for a weekend drive or daily driver. Something about a Porsche that always remains constant that is appealing. Would love to have a convertible, but the overall look is superb.

Overall, spectacular. Interior does not meet with expectations of the rest of the car.
