In 2000, this car was one the fastest sedans out there. Today, 200 Hp is pretty standard but it's still fun to drive. I've had very few issues with this car. The only major maintenance I had to do was replace the oxygen sensors in order for the engine light to turn off. Luckily I could do it myself and save a lot of cash paying a mechanic.Jan 30, 2015

A thrill to drive, bites the curves. I just bought the car so 0 repairs so far. My 98 svt had no major problems. Pleasing appearance inside and out. On the down side, w/gas prices, premium fuel gets expensive.Apr 20, 2011

My SVT has been a good car. It has great
acceleration (ultra responsive), good top end speed
(i've hit over 140mph), great exhaust note, nice
tight steering, and great all-around handling
(especially for a front wheel drive). Mine has nice
leather and power everything. Mine has given me
loads of problems, including the need for lots of
new suspension parts, a new clutch, shift cables,
etc. My sunroof doesn't work and my overhead
light console fell off. Other than that, I love it. I get
anywhere between 13 and 23 mpg depending on
how I drive (usually around 19). Besides the repairs,
tires and brakes and oil are average cost, and
everything else is cheap. It performs just fine in the
snow (including donuts), and i like the foglights. It
has good trunkspace and a average backseat.
Customization/aftermarket parts aren't really made
for this car, but that's okay if all you want is new
wheels and exhaust kinda stuff. If you can get a
good deal on this car, buy one. It's good
performance for the price- I've beat mustangs. It's
also practical, I take it snowboarding. Jan 05, 2010

This may have been one of the fastest cars I have ever owned. It had a SVT Designed 2.5 liter engine, five speed transmition, nice aggressive body kit and good stereo. Parts were expensive, and everyone I ever drove needed third gear synocrollnisers replaced.Dec 03, 2009

Was what I called a 'sleeper.' Lots of fun with lots of power. A suspension change made all the difference with this car. It would top out at about 158 mph (actually computer would hold it). Would love to have kept this car and raced it.Aug 16, 2009

Its a great little handleing car and does rather well in a straight line. Has alll wheels disc breaks so stops on a dime. It does has some transmission problems but once you get that squared away its a blast to drive.Jul 05, 2009

This car is amazing! The best thing about it is that they are rare. I have seen more Maserati's that I have CSVTs. It will keep up with the best of them (BMWs, Mercedes, etc.) and I love it that most people are surprised when I whiz past them and all they hear is a deep, exotic growl from the exhaust. It gets decent gas mileage (I'm averaging about 23-24 mpgs, with no highway driving). I have had to have it into the shop quite a few times in the month and a half that I have owned the car. I expect once I get everything taken care of and I know the maintenance history to the tee, it will be an incredibly reliable car that is as exotic as it is fast.Aug 07, 2008

I like it because it is like a sports car. It says sport on the back of it. I hate the front of the car because it wobblies. Jun 19, 2008

The 2000 Ford Contour is final Contour year offered in the states. The SVT was offered for a few years prior to termination of this model. The Mondeo is the non-U.S. version (still in production) and can be seen in movies like Casino Royal (Beginning of film).
The 2000 SVT offers 200HP 170 ft/lbs of torque at higher rev's. The car handles better than some BWM's (personal experience) and can really hold it's own on top speed. 143 MPH electronically limited isn't bad for the price tag. The 5 speed manual tranny is a breeze, with short throws and smooth transitions. I've added many engine / transmission modifications that really give the car a boost. Apr 12, 2008

The quality of this car is the biggest issue. I'm afraid it fits the axiom "fix or repair daily". Witht that being said, this is a wonderful car to drive. The sound of the engine is very throaty. Grip and handling are superb. The power band is solid and pulls in every gear. It isn't the most powerful car on the road, but the 2.5 liter V6 puts out 200 hp, and will can keep up with high end cars. The leather seats are very attractive and provide great lateral support via the heavy bolstering. This isn't a car to take to the local 1/4 mile, instead head to the twisties and stretch her legs. Overall a very fun and quick ride. Mar 04, 2008
