This was an awesome car for its time. I owned a 1998 model new in 98 and had zero problems mopping the floor with BMWs and many V8 vehicles from that year. I had been searching for one recently and lucked out on a 98 model with only 113000 miles on it. Great buy as these cars are becoming collectables. Very rare and extremely hard to find. If you have the opportunity to purchase one I would jump on it quick. I plan on keeping mine forever. Aug 25, 2021

Drives like a dream, passes all perfomance tests, great looks, 5 speed, huge engine into small sedan, lots of power, love the looks, from headlights to the dual exhaust, roar of the engine and feeling is beautiful. it is rare and not many out there left.Jun 24, 2010

Overall it's a nice car. It accelerates pretty quickly and the handling is okay. It's got some years on it so it has needed repairs. I'm not to keen on the leather interior but I guess that's a good thing. It's not horrible on gas. And yes, it's a fun car to drive.Oct 25, 2009

Handles amazing, duratec25 sounds great, brakes good, total sleeper, and is fun to drive.Quick, sticks, sounds great, well laid out interior, smooth trans, clutch engagement point is a little vague.. fist car though, and I love it. Has been reliable so far for 148,000 miles. Little things i would expect to go wrong are starting to go wrong though.Jul 14, 2009

To be honest, I just bought the car at a repo auction a few weeks ago and who knows what type of upkeep it had recieved until now. It Has 108K on it and the engine is silky smooth, starts up great and sounds tight. From what i've read so far this engine is supposed to be weak on the low end and build power farther up in the rex range. Mine seems to go flat anything over about 4500 or 5000 RPM??? The revs seem to "hang" also. Any suggestions? As far as ride goes its great(once the lower control arms, brakes, tie rod ends and sway bar bushings were replaced). My daily driver is an 05 WRX so I'm a little jaded as far as handling and acceleration is concerned. Maybe without the Subie as a baseline the SVT would seem more pleasing but.........for the money I paid the car is good. Any help with info concerning the weak top end would be appreciated. I loved this car. However, I needed a 4x4 to cross mountains in Oregon and Idaho. Easy ingress/egress, large trunk, fit 4 people easily and was a blast to drive. SVT package (increased HP, better suspension, interior, body kit, brakes) made this contour a fun drive. Ford mechanical issues made this car questionable.May 02, 2008

The definition of a sports sedan. Big performance out of a little car. No aftermarket tuning
required! Had the car for a long time, but its holding together and still can zip in and out of
traffic like the day it came out of the showroom! No traction control, front wheel drive and
massive amounts of torque means this is one of the few cars that can burn out off the line!Feb 28, 2008

Very few were ever made but if you ever owned or drove one you loved it. SVT took a contour and made something out of it. 2.5L DOHC 24V motor is amazing. suspension is amazing holding through corners, stock tires are BFGoodrich G-force T/A which stick like your shoes to the theater floor.Jan 08, 2008

this is one fun car the power curve is extreme when it hits 35000 rpm it really kicks in most people think its got turbo.
