I h owned a 1997 4x4 extended cab Nissan XE truck from 1997-2004. It was a dependable good looking truck but was only available with the 4 cylinder in the 4x4 which got about 12 mpg in the city and maybe 15 mpg highway with the 5 speed straight drive transmission. Nissan screwed up that year by not continuing the 6 cylinder version. Apr 16, 2023

truck is easy to work on, easy to drive, holds good amount of cargo for small truck, 4X4 works great in snow, has over 160,000 miles on it burns zero oil its a good value for the money, would recommend to anyone but make sure you throughly inspect vehicle before buying they are prone to rustMar 28, 2014

Fuel consumption is high.. Hand Brake seldom has worked properly.. Tappet noise
always prevalent in V6 motor. Has needed starter motor repairs. Rust beginning to
be a problem. Drivers seat partially collapsed.
Fun to drive in the country on rough roadsJun 18, 2011

Acceleration-slow
Brakes-firm and stop well, no anti-lock
Handling-poor, leans side to side in corners and in highway wind
Lots of squeaks and rattles-by design and age. Needs very few repairs and parts
are cheap in cost. Fair mileage, little to no maintanance. Interior and exterior are
plain. Has heat, A/C, power steering, roll up windows. Fun to drive the manual.

Performance - 1400 not even featured in their list. Bumps a lot. Build Quality - does not dent easily. Appearance - Timeless. Cost of ownership - not very light on fuel. Fun factor - like a bumpy Merry Go Round! Engine not so complicated that Nissan can service it. Big plus!Sep 10, 2010

Build Quality: Perfect, bit down on power though
Car Comparisons: fox body mustang, too many tickets
Performance: air borne off snow piles, did very well

Good truck, reliable. First car I bought new. I had it from 1997-2000. It was a good truck, went pretty fast for a 4 banger and was very reliable. I also liked the color, they look best in black IMHO. Mine did not have steel rims however, it had the aluminium mags.Jul 10, 2009

look it aint a pretty bakkie but it does its job. its very strong seeing as its a 3.0l v6. i got it when it had 104000km on the clock... but its more then just a very strong bakkie, volvo's cant stay with me and only the big bmw's can catch me after 200km/h... plez do note that speed kills... problems i did have with it is like nothing... i had to overall the gearbox but that is my own fault for not checking the oil... other then that i will neve sell it and the day that the motor desides to go i'll just put in a v8... lets see you catch me now... It has been faithful to me and it gets used to tow my racing car. Yhis is not my model as I have a 2L single cab 2000 model. It looks similar!Jan 14, 2008
