The VN wagon has lots of room, reliable engine, good solid 5 speed. Wicked power for age, light weight ( upgrade suspensions if not already done ). Cheap body kits and wheels available, so many parts at wreckers, want leather seats = easy and cheap for full set. VN are the easiest commodore to steal, so make sure you get a good alarm and set up a manual kill switch somewhere, the hidden magnetic style kill switches are great, or the more expensive wireless slave immobiliser. VN over 250,000kms will require some work on electrics like coil, alternator etc, so work that into your budget. Cheap reconned units available.
Grab a 5 speed VN, don't worry about how many k's its done, engines just last forever. Grab a cheap body kit, some 18 inch mags, a good alarm and manual kill switch and you are sorted for uber cheap thrashing fun ~ wagons with body kit look wicked. Old school , thrashed to crap, burnout king, cheap commodore fun, brogan vehicle... Sure, but I'd rather be pushing my VN than driving your Ford.Aug 04, 2013

I like the fact that it has 500+hp and handles better than most imports with it's aftermarket suspension. It's funny beating people in a dunga looking old VN. I'd never sell my VN as I just proved by spending $20K on the new motor.May 25, 2009

One of only 2500 Calais V8 185Kw - Series 2 NV Wagon
Performance was pretty startling for the era, handled extremly well and braked the same.
Biuld quality was very good, no rattlles and only some roof lining adhesion and Qty 1 electric window switch replaced.
Interior was very clean and looked very nice, exterior was fautless, paint and finish was of a very high quality.
Gas mileage was on an average 9.8 to 10.5 Litres per 100 Km. This car was very comfortable and fun to drive without the fatigue over long distances.Oct 02, 2008

I love my car because it was built in july 1898 and i was born in july 1989 i also like it because it is an ex-copcar it runs like a charm and handles like a v8 supercar and it also does amazing burnouts but the only down factor about the whole that it hasn't got a 5 speed in it!!!Oct 02, 2008

The car has great acceleration between gears 1-3 but at the time there are some problems with the 5 speed box. Even the executive and calais models had issues with squeaks and rattles. Interior looks good and is durable. Exterior is agressive with the right colours and lowering of the suspension. fuel efficiency is not great and is compunded by the modified chip but boy oh boy is she fun to take out onto the streets for a bit of fun. If your after an agressive Aussie sedan or ute this model is the bushpig variety. ugly, powerful and will keep going after you shoot it.Sep 19, 2008
