Bought for $3000 with the 5.0 V8 and 4-speed manual. Great fun to drive and will definitely do whatever job you ask it to do. However, rust and fuel economy are my biggest gripes with it. I have about 522k miles on my 1986 F150 and I will say it has lol power steering leak and brake fluid but not oil no smoke runs great and only thing went bad so far is that likes to pop out of 3 when accelerated .its the 4 speed in the floor and even if you try to hold it in will still jump out so time to do a lil work lol.but thank god its the simplest truck ever worked on .mine still will pull anything I like I have 3 33 foot R.V.s I pull all the time just skip 3rd haha thanks for reading love the truck .Jan 02, 2022

This truck is my first truck and the owner before neglect it to hell and only used it for towing his boat around. I payed 400$ for it and put in 200~350 into it so far. None of it major work just fluids,hoses,belts. Only thing went out on it when i bought it was the fuel tank selector couldnt find one for the life of me. Check LMCtruck they have it but want 200$+ for the part so i just bypassed the rear fuel tank to just be ran to the engine. Sucks alot of gas with a 5.8l in it but honestly in aint much differnt then my jeep with a 4.0 lol. Love the bed of it, i scrap alot and need that kind of space. Not sure if this is stock but the rear suspension has helper springs and coil springs(So can put alot of weight in the back without a prob, even the engine can hold up lol) Has a little bit of a lifter/rocker noise in the engine but it has 250k on the engine so i aint complaining. Love the truck, would only trade it for equal pros and better gas mileage lol.

Another well used truck before I bought it. I hauled horses in a steel box in the bed. I only got about a years used out of this truck, it wouldnt stay running and i replaced a ton of sensors on it.Mar 23, 2013

Performance: acceleration sucks, brakes suck,handling sucks but hey its a old
truck..
Build quality: never breaks down and just keeps ticking
Appearance: love it
Cost: cheap truck to fix but gas milage and prices kill you

very strong truck i have been stuck in the mud water coming in the door everything you can think of it drinks gas but not as bad as a carb no mecanical problems just things like plugs and battery are all i have put in it love the truck will never forget her..Mar 31, 2011

This isn't really a every day vehicle anymore. I haven't driven it since the lift isn't
done yet. It should be fun, but I want to get a lot more work out of it. I have a
Holset HX35 and an EFI engine that I'd like to put in. That should get some more

This is first truck i got and the last one i'll ever sell. they are nearly
indestructible and 3rd gear is hard to find and its fun to laugh at new

Once i get eveything fixed this truck is gonna be runnin for a long time cuz its a tough built truck, even tho its a ford i love it. Ive put alot of repairs into it cuz the previous owner didnt take care of it or maintain it. The interior is in pretty good condition, the outside just needs a fresh coat of paint, and now some body repair cuz it got hit 2 days ago :( it dont get to good gas mileage but the maintenence is pretty easy. tough truck,4.9 in line 6 cyl,sold it with 460,000kms,with no major problems.the proformance was not that good but over all a good truck.i beat the tar out of that truck and it still was running well when i sold it.Jul 03, 2010

I owned it recently so it handled like you would expect an old truck would, it needed some repairs but considering it was over 20 years old it was expected, 80's styling was not especially good for any vehicle but it's 4x4 short bed look helped. it was a 4 spd 300ci inline 6 and it got about 12 mpg. the 4 spd made it fun but the i6 isnt exactly the fastest engineJun 14, 2010

The trucks a beast, it's a 302, except with elderbrock intake, carb, and heads, plus a set of unknown brand headers. Its a 4 speed 4x4 with granny low and yesterday we had 16+ inches of snow where i live plus the drifts built up in front of my truck and the truck started immediatly and drove right down my country drive way in 4 wheel drive in 2nd gear the whole time without a problem, that truck amazes me. not only that i get compliments all the time. Oh ya and the best part is, if you get bigger tires and get a lil lift, no one ever rides your ass : )Dec 11, 2009

1986 F150, inline six, 3 speed, 2WD. Tough as nails truck, flexible, hard working, fun to drive. Body starts to rust in all the typical Ford places, does ride like a grain truck when it gets really cold, but always starts even at -50c. Didn't really expect sports car speed, especially with the inline, but it can move, tons of low-end torque. Mileage is 4.8 km/L (14.6 mpg for the Americans), not bad for 280,372km truck. Durable as hell, been hit six times and its still rolling strait, can't say the same for the cars that hit me. lol Love the look of it, like a Panzer tank on wheels. Recommend it highly.Dec 06, 2009

I really did not like this truck. it was slow and the old inline six did not give it much power. It really could not haul anything. Body was rusted all out and it was losing ground fast. Although it was free. Nov 12, 2009

For an old truck, it do and almost out perform some of the new ones. Build quality is spot on, solid. Fun factor for me is that it's a four speed transmission and I never use 1st gear. Cost of ownership less than a $1000.Nov 01, 2009

no complaints..Solid as a rock, A true workhorse. upgraded 3/4 ton springs 3.50 gears and brand new hiperf. 306ci/5.0L all edelbrock induction/comp cam/msd ign. Mine is FAST!..BOWTIE BOYS LOOK OUT! rides like a cloud/drives like a dream....I wouldn't trade it for a new one...I love my truck!Sep 30, 2009

the motr is good but the motor mounts are cheap and break way to easy
fun truck to romp in but its still fun to drive around town too

was a blue and silver xlt lariat standard cab with a big brush guard and winch on it...had the 351 high output...would go like stink...installed an auburn posi in the rear axle which turned out to be a p.o.s. did little to put the power where needed. eventually totaled it 8 day before wedding to first wife,,,should`ve taken to be an omen...Jul 16, 2009

Even though 23ish years have robbed it of some horsepower, this is the best truck I've ever driven. I've got an f-250 turbo-diesel but the handling is terrible, turning radius is bad beyond description. Driven some later model Chevys and Fords, but nothing can hold a candle to this truck. The interior looks a bit rough- the red dash is no longer exactly vibrant- and the carpet definitely had to be redone, but it's a work truck and looks pretty fine doing that work. Has hauled lots of trees, dirt, feed and hay and is always game, even if the load is a bit over it's half-ton capacity.
We rebuilt the transmision (manual) a year ago and it drives real nice. Had to replace the interior fuel pump (figured that out after the tenth time the engine shut off while going round a corner).
Only faults I've found it the AC block is massive so it sucks horsepower and MPGs like a tornado in a trailer park, and it doesn't drive ice well, even with tactful handling.
Awesome truck to drive...handles country roads and city roads and a little off roading in between... and you should see all the boys' faces when they see the girl driving it :)

I bought the truck not running and a blown tire.I fix the truck for like $50.I later put 31"mudswompers.It had 138k when I got it it now has closer to 140k.She isn't all that perty with the rust but if you look through the rust its the perfect truck.Nov 01, 2008

It's a 1986 ford, with a 5.0 (*302) Engine package. Everything on the vehicle is stock. It's got 125k miles on it and it's got a flawless exterior/interior. Eventually I plan to upgrade the exterior/interior somehow but I have not picked a specific style yet. I have changed the wheels, to a 50's style, baby moon chrome rims with thicker tires in the back and smaller ones in the front, both for 15" rims. leaked oil like every old Ford should.
It had cruse controll (that worked!), auto trans., CB, casset player w/ radio, altimiter, square gauges counting in 5's, and best of all- 4x4! It had a 302cid, same as laslow's (RIP), except w/ a ton more steel on it. If the planits lined up and granma was't bark'n, it got 14mpg.
It has gone where a person sould't go, hydroplaned, rallied, bajahed, flew, swam (not vary far), & dug plenty of dirt.

This truck has been thru hell. Having went thru 3 grilles, 1 radiator, 1 manual transmission, and it's on its 4th clutch, but it was at one time a farm truck until my brother bought it off my dad in November, 2004. It came with an Inline 6 and I didnt care for the inline with a 3 speed so I swapped the engine to a 302 and put dual exhaust with new headers on it. It gets to highway speed REALLY easy and 4 wheel drive is awesome. The bad side is that it is a 3 speed so it has bad gas mileage on it. Its a single cab with a long bed and a vinal cover on the bed. I also put in an aftermarket stereo with speakers in it and its louder than those gangsters with the subs and bass tubes....trust me. The grill guard can also take a beating. It has pulled cars out of mud and ditches and also has pulled me out of a ditch by it. It doesn't have a lift but has plenty of ground clearence for off roading through tough terrain amd also I have ut 34 inch tires on it.Jun 12, 2008

easy to fix, low cost parts .. btw ; originals galipers, alternator, p/b, p/s, trany, t-case, drive-shafts !
it's not very fast but have impressive handling even under load !
I bought this truck 15 years ago, I've made 1500miles rides with a caravan every years (that's why I bought this truck, to pull ! and he did it, quite well !)

i rebuilt my f.i. 302 (vin # N) by boring it .30 over and installing a 260 lift cam to replace the 206 from the factory. with headers, electric fan and few other mods i am pushing 398 hp. AWESOME TRUCK! im getting 19.5 mpg on the hwy. the AOD trans leaves some to b desired since u cant hold it in 2d gear manually. but other than that it is nearly completely rebuilt and i plan to keep it for at least 8 to 10 more years.Nov 30, 2007
