It has quite a lot of power, brakes are poor but thats just older trucks. Handling is a little rough on road because of the tires i have on it. Very poor gas mileage, but is a very fun vehicle to drive especially off-road.Dec 11, 2011

This 1986 Blazer is a fantastic vehicle. Great acceleration, stops on a dime, and will get you to and from, on or off the road. The appearance of this truck will get you thinking " BEAST", and when you drive it, you will feel unstopable.Nov 05, 2011

The Chevrolet K5 is a great off-road rig. On the trail it has the ability to haul more gear and passengers than the Jeep. The one small drawback would be the fact that it can feel cumbersome at times, due to it's girth. Overall, I love my Blazer and can't imagine not owning one.Jan 01, 2010

never gets stuck, lots of power, easy to drive in city, loves its fuel like a sailor likes his rum, hates to start in cold mornings, looks badass, easy to get aftermarket or original equipment parts, I love this truckNov 01, 2009

I totally enjoy the older blazers. I've owned two so far and enjoyed both. I go where ever I want, like areas where other vehicles normally go, just hickers. With the 305 engin I've gotten great mileage. Using the 4x4 on snow was greater traction than 2x's. Aug 24, 2009

this is a great truck.it hardly ever breaks down, has good acceleration, good braking, but the handling can get kinda sketchy at high speeds.it has needed repairs, like ball joints, rear axle shafts, and u-joints.the exterior is awesome, kinda boxy, and has a removable hard top and is sweet in the summer.interior is roomy and warm.the only real bad thing is the gas guzzle affect.it probably gets about 17mpg,and maintenance is just standard car care.fun factor is 10 out of 10.its a blast to drive and have lots of fun in itAug 26, 2008

This K5 Blazer has pretty much all the plush items (Silverado) yet still has the same durable power train of all the full size GM 4 x 4's. Over the years I have had several GM 4 wheel drives and have never had one I didn't like. If you maintain them, they will serve you well. This one has the 6.2 diesel engine which is no power house but delivers the same or better torque of the small block gas engine but does it at 1700 rpm so it's pretty much ideal for 4 wheeling in rough country. Since it has air conditioning and a comfortable interior my wife likes it also. The only improvements I plan in the very near future are the addition of a 4 to 6 inch lift and heavy duty axles from an 86 Chevy 3/4 ton 4 x 4 I bought as a donor.
This Blazer is ready for a transmission rebuild but at 153,000 miles some repairs should be expected. That's not that bad since my pickup transmission went out at 97,000 miles. Now that gas prices are getting beyond rediculous it makes the diesel engines a better idea even tho I am not a big diesel fan but 22 MPG isn't bad.
All auto manufacturers build their vehicles with several designs that we feel are stupid and not user friendly but feel the GM rigs are more friendly to work on that the others in my opinion. I have owned and driven Fords, Dodges and Chevys over the years and I still feel the Blazer is the best SUV in these years and I would have picked the Dodge Ramcharger next in line. It's just my opinion but I feel Ford ruined their suspensions when they dreamed up the twin I-beam. When I say I have driven many over the years I am not just blowing smoke, I am 61 years old and have been a vehicle nut forever.
Enjoy your 4 wheeling time as it's the best way to see beautiful country that not everyone gets to see. I have been hunting, fishing, camping and 4 wheeling here in Idaho all my life and I'll never see it all.Jan 27, 2008
