I had a 1979 LT Camaro back in the 80's. I drove it for years but then had to sell it and get a truck because I lived in the country. The camaro just wasn't the ideal car for country living. Several years later I saw this one for sale. It was another color then and needed work. I got it, put a few bucks under the hood and drove it back and forth to work for years before I decide to start the restoration process. I am very happy with this car and am thankful for my artistic child that chose the color to paint it and to put the stripes on it. (She commandeered the Camaro)Feb 24, 2015

A very purpose built car. Not designed as a grocery getter, it's designed to go
fast and look good doing it. My particular example has unbelievable power
thanks to a high performance 383 stroker under the hood. Accelerates in an
instant. Handling is above average for a car of the time period. Brakes are
sufficient. These cars do have some squeaks/rattles/interior noise, but its all
part of the charm of a muscle car. Appearance is spot on for a late 70's
sports/muscle car. Maintenance costs on a car of this age all have to do with
how it was cared for the past 30 years. The gas mileage of a carbureted V8
definitely is no high point. But you get what you expect to get with this type of
vehicle. As far as fun factor goes, I have yet to experience anything better. T-
tops definitely add to the experience.Dec 02, 2013

I don't like how the rear end slides to easy, its a real easy car to burn rubber with. theres only two types of people who drive it, car enthusiast and bad azzez. with the 350 4 bolt main its a true American muscle.Jun 27, 2013

I bought the car myself at 17 and its been great ever since, acceleration is decently quick with the 4 spd trans. The brake could use an upgrade, when moving at speeds around 65mph it feels like its not gonna stop. Funnest thing ive ever driven, even better than the 2012 camaro in my opinion.Jan 02, 2013

I like the year as i was born in 1978 and me and my cousin built this car. It was a barn find and for 400.00 i couldnt go wrong. I have tons of money and time into this car and love making and spending time with my kids working on it and making memories with it Jan 01, 2013

The restoration project dragged on forever until it became ridiculous. Then the owner left town and left me with the car. Not being a mechanic or wanting a classic muscle car, I want to find someone who is going to love it and get it running again or at least use it for parts.Nov 08, 2012

Best year camaro ever made. Suspension was great stock and
still is. Performance suffered due to the oil crisis in the late
70s, but the motors respond very well to performance parts. I
love mine, and I will never sell it.Feb 20, 2010

It was fun to drive, turned heads, and for being stock she was fast with just a few modifications. It didn't cost much to keep her running compared to computer cars of today. She was my baby and everyone knew her when we hit the road.Nov 12, 2009

454 tunnel ram, cragar ss's, to loud to get the women though, about 5 mpg, eats little ricers, cost of ownership alot, always needs rear tires, hard to see around the tunnel ram in town, makes the cops follow me.Sep 28, 2009

Great car if your into old cars like this one. Runs well with no major problems. The car has a great feel and is so much fun to drive. This car also gets a lot of compliments and plenty of awe-struck stares. Sep 21, 2009

i like everything about it except the 14 inch wheels, but they match, built the 350 thats in it. bored 40 over, cammed, edlebrock high rise intake (thats why there is a hole in the hood, soon to be cowl) 650 edlebrock carb, and a turbo 350 tranny, oh the 350 is a 4 bolt!!!!Sep 16, 2009

Big block V8 with dual overhead cams, kick ass muffler system even with the catalytic, rode 5 easily and comfortably, slap stick shifter, hugged the road like there was no tomorrow. Loved this white baby. She's queen of roads! YeahSep 13, 2009

this car is raw power that you feel all over your body, from the minute you turn the key to the feeling of weightlessness you feel when you're taking your car over the threshold of safety at over 270 km h. What a rush.Sep 11, 2009

the 1979 camaro has more to offer then its looks. the sleek body lines gives it the ability to be a beautiful car. performance wise it wasnt the best out of the factory but with simple modifications and very little money the car can be fast.Aug 14, 2009

The Camaro Has been part of my family since it was bought off the lot in 1979 by my mother!
The car is pretty much all original except now we put a deck in this summer, (The A.M radio just wasn't cutting it LOL )
Hopefully by this summer we want to start the rebuilding of the car (the old lady needs a face lift, as i tell my mother)
The car handles very well in the summer time when its nice and dry out, but for having such a light back end you would assume there are a lot of fish tailing in the rain.

this is one of my favorite cars its currently being restored and is powered by a 250ci s6. its a great drive and is sure to stick you to your seat every time it takes off. this year mode was one of the first to incorporate aerodynamics with muscle cars and introduced chevy to the in-line 6 cylinders.Jan 24, 2009

i love all of the possibility's my small block chevy has.patrs are cheap. it can easily throw your head back in the seat with the edelbrock high rise manifold and car. peeling out has never been easier. And with 12 inch subs and a 750 watt amp you can blow out your ear drums with style. one thing that i really need to improve though.... the horn sounds so small like a moped :( Jan 06, 2009

Well, what can I say. My car is all original, minus the headers my dad installed in 1980, lol. She's got a 350, 4 speed, posi, and duals. Sounds gorgeous, performs well. Very solid, just starting to develope rust along the rear quarters. Also the interior is faded and the headliner is falling. She needs a restoration. She's been in my family since 1980, my mom bought it from the original owner. The car lived most of its life in the back corner of a dirt floored pole shed with a car cover on her, surrounded by farm equiptment. Only recently have we pulled her out. before registering it in '02, she still had '91 tabs on her custom license plates. After a detailed washing and waxing, the original paint still gleamed, minus the rust I mentioned earlier. A good tune up and carbeurator rebuild and she's road worthy now, recieving roughly 300 miles during the summer, then retiring to the back of our concrete floored shed for winter.Sep 10, 2008

it's got a built 350, that i did myself and a three speed automatic. 245/60r15 bfg's all around and bigger sway bars to keep her on the road. love my baby to death even at 12mpg at best and even with a serious lack of a passenger seat. and besides, who doesn't love a good ol chevy?Aug 29, 2008

Since I was a kid, when that 79 Z28 rolled around my neighborhood I always said that was the car I will get!
Muscle car? Maybe not true muscle but alot of potential to be!
Just the body shape and design..........just look at one from the front at a nice low bend(excellent).
I have a Z28 with a mild built engine,compcams 280,performer manifold,holley 600,true duel exhaust,2200 rpm converter on t-350.
It has plenty of street power and a real head turner!
Been off road because of strict emission law,but now that its exempt gotta get back out there!
Had many people stop at house wanting to buy, almost sold last summer but my son (10) would not let me as of my own heart!
Keep them as all classic muscle cars on the road! Its up to people like us to keep them around for many more years!
Buy them....Enjoy them.......Save them from the compactor!Nov 13, 2006
