With a 95bhp 1798cc engine, performance was good, but dropped if the twin
carbs got out of sync.
I noticed a slight rattle from the engine, but was told it was the little ends and
was not urgent. however on a long journey the noise got worse and less than
10 miles from home, when pulling out from a T junction the engine locked solid.
A mate towed it back to his garage, where I found that one of the big end bolts
had snapped and the con rod had wrapped itself around the camshaft! The
rattling had been caused by the big end bolts slowly coming loose! I took the
engine out and got a new crankshaft from my local MG dealer. After running it
in, the car was much faster - I once saw 115mph on the speedo.
The tops of the front wings and the outer sills were prone to rusting. Eventually
a family forced its sale... Feb 10, 2012
