For used buyers, the long-term ownership picture is generally reassuring, especially if you want a truck built around lasting value and hard-wearing capability.
What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Tacoma?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with Lane Tracing Assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, oncoming vehicle collision avoidance assist, road-sign assist, emergency stop system, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: 11.9 L/100 km combined with the manual transmission and as low as 11.2 L/100 km combined with the automatic.
Which Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma offers these trims:
- Tacoma: The standard 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder i-FORCE setup with 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, plus standard 4WD and an eight-speed automatic, makes this the starting point for buyers who want the core Tacoma formula.
- TRD Sport: Sport-tuned shocks give this trim a more road-focused character while keeping the Tacoma’s rugged foundation.
- TRD Off Road: Monotube Bilstein shocks and 17-inch off-road alloys make this the clear pick if you want the Tacoma’s off-road hardware in a dedicated package.
- Premium packages: Heated and ventilated SofTex-trimmed seats, a 14-inch centre display, and added convenience features make these the best-value choice for buyers who want the most equipment.
- i-Force Max hybrid: This is the top capability choice, built around the hybrid powertrain reserved for maximum performance.
What Toyota Tacoma do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Tacoma years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 488 | 35.9% |
| 2023 | 446 | 31.4% |
| 2025 | 363 | 34.7% |
| 2022 | 330 | 30% |
| 2021 | 227 | 26% |

That pattern suggests the Tacoma continues to command strong interest even as prices ease.
The 2018, 2016, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

I bought the Limited to get the retracting running boards for easier access. It has everything you can think of and then some. It has a dash cam to record your drive. Not something I will ever use. It has remote start from an app on your phone. After year one its $15 a month. Ridiculous! It rides nice with a solid feel and has plenty of power when you need it. Yes the back seat is a bit small but doable for average height passengers. The dash screen is too big in my opinion, almost obstruct your view to the right side of the truck. The seats are comfortable and the seat position is good. The fit and finish is good!

The Toyota Tacoma Extra Cab not to be confused with Double Cab. Is new though I bought it used but at 17K it's close to new. While I haven't had it long enough for a full review. I have had Toyota PU's before and the last one I had went 225,000 miles and I still sold it for $2200 9/10 years later after I moved from MN to FL. This one has great pickup off of the 2.4 Liter Turbo and though it takes a climb to get into I'm looking into side railing steps via online suppliers. Overall I am happy with the purchase though I did bite in on the extended warranty since my trade in a downpayment brought the montly costs down low enough to make it affordable. I see F-150's and F-250's and Dodge Ram Trucks of similar make and size but for my money Toyota Truck are legendary for their ability to take wear and tear.

The Tacoma is still truckin' right along. Toyota marks the start of the model's fourth generation with a ground-up redesign.
The fourth-gen Tacoma is also the first Tacoma to share a platform with the larger Toyota Tundra. (The TNGA-F platform also underpins the Sequoia and the just-revived Land Cruiser.) It launches in Canada in two configurations and six packages, each powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The Tacoma's first-ever hybrid powertrain is due in the spring of 2024. We traveled to Malibu, California, to drive the all-new Tacoma in all of its gas-only guises.
