The Toyota Tacoma's current nationwide average price is $44,996 CAD, and its lowest point over the past year was $44,268 CAD. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Toyota Tacoma a good car?
Yes — the Toyota Tacoma is a strong choice if you want a truck with a durable character, strong resale appeal, and genuine off-road ability. The all-generations owner rating is 4.53/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners repeatedly praise its reliability, rugged design, and long-term value, and many also like its versatility for both daily use and work. Across the model years, the Tacoma’s reputation for durability and off-road confidence comes through clearly, along with steady owner appreciation for its performance and resale strength.
Expert reviews rate the 2024 and 2022 models among the highest across all years.
The trade-offs tend to centre on cabin noise, a functional interior, and some versions that feel less polished than rivals, especially in older model years. For shoppers, that means the Tacoma rewards you most if you value toughness, capability, and long-term appeal over luxury touches.
29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Toyota Tacoma models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently point to the Tacoma’s durability, strong resale value, and rugged build quality. Across the model years, it earns a reputation as a truck that stays appealing for a long time and suits buyers who want dependable everyday use with real capability.
- Owners rate the Toyota Tacoma between 4.2 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is generally tied more to age, mileage, and how the truck was used than to the Tacoma nameplate itself.
What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Tacoma?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with Lane Tracing Assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, oncoming vehicle collision avoidance assist, road-sign assist, emergency stop system, adaptive cruise control with four following-distance settings, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, and the automatic version is estimated at as low as 11.2 L/100 km combined.
Which Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma offers these trims:
- Tacoma: The standard 2.4-litre turbocharged engine, 4WD, and 8-speed automatic give you the core Tacoma setup, making this the best-value starting point if you want the redesigned truck’s main strengths.
- TRD Sport: Sport-tuned shocks add a more road-focused feel while keeping the Tacoma’s everyday usability intact.
- TRD Off Road: Monotube Bilstein shocks and 17-inch off-road alloys bring extra trail-ready hardware for buyers who want a more adventure-focused setup.
- Premium packages: Heated and ventilated SofTex-trimmed seats add more comfort and convenience for shoppers who want a better-equipped cabin.
What Toyota Tacoma do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Tacoma years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 467 | 34% |
| 2023 | 428 | 32% |
| 2025 | 342 | 34.2% |
| 2022 | 341 | 28.7% |
| 2021 | 226 | 27.4% |
| 2026 | 176 | 33.5% |
Higher-volume years usually give you more choice in trims, colours, and pricing, which makes it easier to compare listings and find a truck that fits your budget. They also tend to be the years shoppers cross-shop most often, so the market around them is usually more active.
What is the Toyota Tacoma's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $57,786 CAD | −17.71% |
| 2015 | $23,246 CAD | −17.2% |
| 2014 | $21,651 CAD | −10.72% |
| 2016 | $28,611 CAD | −8.92% |
| 2024 | $53,571 CAD | −7.46% |
| 2021 | $42,872 CAD | −6.22% |
| 2020 | $40,170 CAD | −5.63% |
| 2022 | $43,633 CAD | −5.24% |

| 2019 | $38,148 CAD | −4.71% |
| 2023 | $48,138 CAD | −4.45% |
| 2018 | $35,226 CAD | −3.17% |
Most Tacoma model years are down year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used and want to benefit from softer pricing. The largest drops are concentrated in the newer and older ends of the range, while several mid-cycle years show smaller declines. That pattern suggests the Tacoma remains in demand, but buyers still have room to find value depending on the year they choose.
The 2018, 2023, and 2019 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

I bought the Limited to get the retracting running boards for easier access. It has everything you can think of and then some. It has a dash cam to record your drive. Not something I will ever use. It has remote start from an app on your phone. After year one its $15 a month. Ridiculous! It rides nice with a solid feel and has plenty of power when you need it. Yes the back seat is a bit small but doable for average height passengers. The dash screen is too big in my opinion, almost obstruct your view to the right side of the truck. The seats are comfortable and the seat position is good. The fit and finish is good!

The Toyota Tacoma Extra Cab not to be confused with Double Cab. Is new though I bought it used but at 17K it's close to new. While I haven't had it long enough for a full review. I have had Toyota PU's before and the last one I had went 225,000 miles and I still sold it for $2200 9/10 years later after I moved from MN to FL. This one has great pickup off of the 2.4 Liter Turbo and though it takes a climb to get into I'm looking into side railing steps via online suppliers. Overall I am happy with the purchase though I did bite in on the extended warranty since my trade in a downpayment brought the montly costs down low enough to make it affordable. I see F-150's and F-250's and Dodge Ram Trucks of similar make and size but for my money Toyota Truck are legendary for their ability to take wear and tear.

Toyota Tacoma test drive
overall
The Tacoma is still truckin' right along. Toyota marks the start of the model's fourth generation with a ground-up redesign.
The fourth-gen Tacoma is also the first Tacoma to share a platform with the larger Toyota Tundra. (The TNGA-F platform also underpins the Sequoia and the just-revived Land Cruiser.) It launches in Canada in two configurations and six packages, each powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The Tacoma's first-ever hybrid powertrain is due in the spring of 2024. We traveled to Malibu, California, to drive the all-new Tacoma in all of its gas-only guises.
