What should I look for when buying a used Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: City Safety, Pilot Assist, and a 360-degree camera system.
• Infotainment: A vertical touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Which Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 offers these trims:

• Core: The entry trim brings the B6 mild-hybrid powertrain, standard AWD, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the standard 10-speaker High Performance stereo; it suits buyers who want the XC90’s core luxury and safety experience.
• Plus: This package adds more equipment over Core and is the best-value choice for many shoppers, especially if you want a richer feature set without moving to the top tier.
• Ultra: The top package adds a head-up display, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Sound system, and available 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio; it suits buyers who want the most upscale XC90 experience.

What Volvo XC90 do most buyers choose?

The Volvo XC90 years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2023.

These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare and a broader spread of prices and equipment. That usually makes it easier to find the right combination of features, condition, and value.

What is the Volvo XC90's resale value?

Most XC90 model years are posting double-digit year-over-year price declines, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want stronger value. The newer models are also falling, but by smaller percentages than many older ones, so they remain pricier while still moving down. Overall, the table points to a market where buyers have meaningful room to find a better deal than they would have a year ago.

The 2024, 2023, and 2025 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Volvo XC90 safe?

• 2025: 8/10
• 2024: 6/10
• 2023: 9/10
• 2022: 9/10
• 2021: 9/10

The 2025 Volvo XC90 includes standard advanced driver-assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, and the blind-spot information system.

For the safest used buy, the 2021, 2022 and 2023 models all post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.

Should I buy a used Volvo XC90 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −15.66% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −13.18%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 33.2% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 32.7%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $68,738 CAD. The Volvo XC90 offers a calm, upscale cabin with a strong family-friendly character and a polished sense of refinement.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The latest XC90 offers a B6 mild hybrid with up to 295 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, plus a T8 plug-in hybrid with 455 hp, 523 lb-ft of torque, and up to 53 kilometres of pure electric range.
• Tech: The latest XC90 adds a larger touchscreen with sharper resolution, Google Built-In, and Apple CarPlay that works wirelessly or via USB-C cable.
• Safety: The latest XC90 adds or improves standard ADAS operation, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, blind-spot information, intersection auto brake, and large animal detection.
