The Volvo 740, spanning multiple years, is generally favored for its reliability, spacious interiors, and solid performance. Owners appreciate its strong build quality and durability, often describing it as a dependable choice for daily driving and long-term ownership. However, some drivers expressed frustrations with sluggish acceleration and high fuel consumption, which tended to dampen their overall experience. While many enjoy the car's handling and comfort, common issues like rust and the need for repairs were also mentioned as drawbacks. Despite these concerns, the 740 remains a beloved option among its supporters, known for its longevity and value.

Manual Transmission, with a button 5th gear. 4 banger engine that runs like a V8. Gets about 30 mpg. Exterior looks great, interior needs some work. Fun to drive. No discernible squeaks to be heard. No rattles. Only problem I've had is the heater broke, which takes about 5 mins. to fix.
This is without a doubt the best car I have ever owned. I paid 50 dollars for it 3 years ago with 378,000 miles on it. It now has 440,000 miles on it and it has never, ever failed me. It gets 25 miles a gallon, hauls all my tools for my mobile auto repair business, and my kids to school every day. I have driven it from New York City all the way down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
good road holding and nice burn-out with automatic
for a 25 yr old car it can still run wit newer cars on the highway. acceleration is great especially past 100. handles like a dream. brakes in need of a sports upgrade doh (cross drilled or vented or both). not an aerodynamic car by a longshot but great build quality. obvious noises coz of its age but only coz of driveshaft alignment issues. in dire need of paint right now!! parts are easy to find but kinda expensive but it costs pretty much de same to fill as most cars in its class as far as driving it?? factory rated 192hp (understated of course) it's fun
The Mighty Glacier - it's slow and accelerates like a bad Jeremy Clarkson analogy, but sweet God is it sturdy. This thing took out a massive quad-cab super duty pickup truck and only lost a turn signal cover. Hooray for Swedish steel! It also has the tightest turn circle of any car I've ever driven (yes, tighter than a Lotus Elise o_O) and it just keeps going. Even on three cylinders, it still gets 20mpg.
