love my car so far, very smooth driving and the bluetooth is a nice feature as well as the heated seats, my model doesn’t have the sunroof which is a bummer but overall the vehicle is a beaut. very spacious for me and my dogs when we travel in the car for extended periods of time; and ample trunk space for anything we may pick up on the way.

Tranny problem, I took it for a test drive when driving at highway speed 100km and accelerating to pass transmission would go into neutral or not downshift into the correct gear.

Call me biased, but I don’t see why everyone doesn’t go for this car. Meets all my needs and it’s reliable, relatively affordable, and sleek looking, what more could I want

Why it stands out
The 2017 Subaru Outback stands out because it blends wagon-like practicality with the kind of all-weather capability that helped make the nameplate so popular in the first place. By this generation, the Outback had grown further away from the Legacy and into something much closer to a crossover, while still keeping the roomy, useful character that buyers expect. It was also one of Subaru’s key vehicles for showing off new technology, and the model’s EyeSight driver-assist suite had already become part of its identity by this point.
For 2017, the Outback’s appeal came from its balance of capability and comfort. It was practical, roomy, and highly capable as a light off-road companion, with generous ground clearance and sophisticated terrain systems. The model also had a strong reputation for safety and owner loyalty, and many buyers were drawn to its comfortable interior and standard all-wheel drive. At the same time, the Outback was not without drawbacks: Subaru’s CVTs can be complex to repair, the brand’s flat engines can require more maintenance than some rivals’ conventional designs, and the Outback uses more fuel than some alternatives.
That mix of strengths and compromises is part of what makes the 2017 Subaru Outback distinctive. It offers a lot of space, useful features, and all-weather confidence in a package that still feels relatively affordable for what it does. For shoppers who value versatility and security over outright performance, it remains an appealing choice, even if some drivers may wish for a stronger engine or a more polished transmission feel.
