What is the Subaru Legacy's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | $14,788 CAD | −21.92% |
| 2020 | $18,222 CAD | −20.19% |
| 2019 | $17,943 CAD | −11.95% |
| 2016 | $12,509 CAD | −11.04% |
| 2017 | $13,377 CAD | −10.55% |
| 2015 | $10,661 CAD | −8.48% |
| 2022 | $24,672 CAD | −6.78% |
| 2023 | $28,205 CAD | −2.43% |
Most model years in the table are down year over year, and several have posted double-digit declines. That creates a favourable setup for used buyers who want more car for the money, especially in the older and mid-cycle model years.
The smaller declines on the newest entries suggest those recent versions are softening more gradually than the rest of the range. Overall, the pattern points to broad price pressure across the lineup rather than stability.
The 2023, 2022, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

- Sweet-spot year: The 2016 model has the most listings at a current average price of $12,509 CAD.

For the year, the car has a great amount of modern features. Drives great in the snow, is comfortable with plenty of room, driver assistance features all worked as they should. The only thing missing is Apple CarPlay/android auto. You simply cannot compare anything to the Legacy. Maybe a BMW 5 Series. In terms of value - the legacy wins every time.

Had this car for 6 years, honestly a fantastic vehicle. If you’re a Top Gear fan, One of the 2 models approved by all 3 gents (Jeremy’s antics aside). Had standard Subaru head gasket leak - but never got worse. Got Harmon Kardon speakers inside, great AC, awesome AWD. Loved this car to death! Highly recommend - will keep you safe in snow. Just upkeep on maintenance and it’s your ride or die.

So far so good! Low mileage, one owner car that was all dealer maintained. Only 115,000km on a 13 year old car. Its the 3.6R limited trim so it also has nice extras.

CarGurus recommends the 2016 Subaru Legacy
Summary
With 61 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,492 CAD, 24.6% of 2016 Subaru Legacy listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Subaru Legacy 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Subaru Legacy stands out for making all-wheel drive a standard part of the package, which remains one of its biggest selling points in the midsize sedan class. It also benefits from the sixth generation’s more refined character, with a more advanced feel, a more comfortable ride, and a quieter cabin than earlier versions. For buyers who want a practical sedan with a strong safety focus and year-round traction, that combination gives the Legacy a clear identity.
For this model year, the 2016 Subaru Legacy was offered with a 175-hp 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine or a 256-hp 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine. The four-cylinder was rated at an estimated 9.4 litres per 100 kilometres with the manual transmission and 7.9 L/100 km combined with the CVT, while the six-cylinder delivered an estimated 10.2 L/100 km combined with the CVT. Standard equipment included EyeSight on more models in this generation, a 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the 2.5i, Bluetooth streaming, USB and aux inputs, a backup camera, and 17-inch steel wheels. Higher trims added features such as a sunroof, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, fog lights, heated seats, and, on the technology package, adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning.
That said, the Legacy was not the most exciting choice in its class. Its styling was described as dull, its interior could feel cheap, and performance was considered sluggish. Even so, the 2016 Subaru Legacy remains appealing if you value standard AWD, a broad spread of available safety and convenience features, and a reputation for solid all-weather usability over flash.
