What should I look for when buying a used Nissan Altima?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360, with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic rear braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: an 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker stereo; SR Premium and Platinum add a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, NissanConnect services, and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The Altima AWD should burn 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres in S trim and 8.4 L/100 km in other trims in combined driving. Our test car averaged 8.3 L/100 km on our mountainous testing loop.

Which Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2025 Nissan Altima offers these trims:

• S: The entry trim gets the standard 8-inch touchscreen, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, and Nissan Safety Shield 360. It suits buyers who want the most affordable way into the Altima.
• SR: This trim adds 19-inch wheels, sport-bolstered front seats, and a wireless charging pad, while keeping the standard safety suite and basic infotainment. It suits shoppers who want a sportier look and feel.
• SR Premium: This is the best-value trim because it adds the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, NissanConnect services, navigation, and the nine-speaker Bose audio system, along with ProPilot Assist 1.0. It suits buyers who want the Altima’s most appealing mix of tech and safety features.
• Platinum: The top trim adds the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, NissanConnect services, navigation, the nine-speaker Bose audio system, ProPilot Assist 1.0, and a surround-view camera system. What Nissan Altima do most buyers choose?

The Nissan Altima years with the most listings are 2024, 2016, and 2023.

These higher-volume years tend to draw more shoppers because they combine broader availability with familiar equipment and pricing that fits a wide range of budgets. More listings also give you more chances to compare condition, mileage, and deal quality before you buy.

What is the Nissan Altima's resale value?

Most Altima model years are down year over year, which creates opportunities for used buyers. The biggest drops are concentrated in several newer and older years, while a few model years have changed only slightly. That pattern suggests you can find meaningful value across much of the lineup if you shop carefully.

The 2018, 2017, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Nissan Altima now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2024 model is at −15.83% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −14.95%.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Nissan equips every 2025 Altima sold in Canada with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and standard AWD, generating 182 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque, and the Altima AWD should burn 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres in S trim and 8.4 L/100 km in other trims in combined driving.
• Tech: The standard setup has an 8-inch touchscreen, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker stereo, while SR Premium and Platinum get a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, NissanConnect services, and navigation.
• Safety: Choosing the SR Premium trim level is also your ticket to ProPilot Assist 1.0, which pairs an adaptive cruise control system with stop-and-go capability and a lane-centring assist system, and the Altima Platinum also has a surround-view camera system.
• Starting price: At its base price, the 2025 Altima is the most affordable midsize car on the rapidly dwindling market.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
