How much does the Mercedes-Benz G-Class cost in today's market?

Used Mercedes-Benz G-Class prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class's current nationwide average price is $178,901 CAD, and its lowest point over the past year was $165,500 CAD. Recently, prices have come down for the 2022 and 2023 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?

Yes — the Mercedes-Benz G-Class earns strong owner approval across the lineup, with the all-generations user rating anchored at 4.7/5. Owners consistently praise its rugged build quality, iconic styling, luxurious design, and the way it blends performance with off-road capability. The strongest recurring trade-offs are high pricing, elevated ownership costs, and limited rear seating space. Expert reviews rate the 2025 and 2020 models among the highest across all years. The honest trade-off is that recent expert-tested versions bring a premium price, thirsty fuel consumption, and a cabin that prioritises character and presence over everyday practicality. 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Are Mercedes-Benz G-Class models reliable?

Owners consistently describe the Mercedes-Benz G-Class as a well-built, luxurious SUV with strong performance and standout off-road ability. Across the model years in the data, the feedback also points to a distinctive design and a unique driving experience that keeps buyers interested over time.

• Owners rate the Mercedes-Benz G-Class between 4 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is shaped more by high running costs and model complexity than by a lack of owner enthusiasm.

What should I look for when buying a used Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Mercedes-Benz Pre-Safe, plus forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, park assist, a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, and traffic sign recognition.
• Infotainment: Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus dual 12.3-inch displays.

Which Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class offers these trims:

• G 550: The entry gasoline model pairs a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six with a mild-hybrid system, nine-speed automatic transmission, permanent 4WD, and locking front, centre, and rear differentials; it suits you if you want the core G-Class experience with the broadest appeal.
• AMG G 63: This performance-focused trim adds a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, AMG Active Ride Control suspension, and a sportier steering wheel, making it the pick if you want the most powerful and most dynamic gasoline G-Class.

What Mercedes-Benz G-Class do most buyers choose?

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class years with the most listings are 2022, 2020, and 2021.

Those higher-volume years tend to be the easiest places to start because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right colour, mileage, and condition. They also tend to attract more shopper attention, which helps explain why they remain popular used picks.

What is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?

Most model years in the table are moving lower year over year, which creates better opportunities for used buyers. A few years are still rising, showing that the G-Class can hold value strongly when demand stays high. The spread also suggests that newer inventory can remain expensive even when some recent years soften. The 2017, 2019, and 2025 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.

Is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class safe?

• 2025: 7/10
• 2020: 7/10

The 2025 model adds route-based speed adaptation, automated lane centring, and an emergency-stop feature. For the safest used buy, the 2020 and 2025 models both post the highest confirmed score of 7/10.

Should I buy a used Mercedes-Benz G-Class now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The 2025 lineup pairs a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six with 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, while the AMG G 63 uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.
