What should I look for when buying a used Mazda CX-5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the CX-5 at 9.9 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, 7.9 on the highway, and 9.0 combined — among the highest figures in a segment where more power and better fuel economy are becoming the norm.
• Infotainment: The infotainment system has a 12.9-inch touchscreen on all trims, with Google built-in, native Google Maps, the Google Gemini AI voice assistant, and access to the Google Play Store.

Which Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2026 Mazda CX-5 offers these trims:

• GX: The entry trim brings standard AWD, Google built-in, a 12.9-inch touchscreen, and a broad standard safety suite, making it the value-focused starting point.
• GS: This is the best-value trim, adding 19-inch wheels, a power liftgate, a head-up display, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 10-way power driver's seat with memory.
• GT: This trim adds a Bose 12-speaker audio system, SiriusXM satellite radio, and available Premium Package upgrades including a larger 15.6-inch screen, a 360-degree View Monitor, a Driver Monitoring system, rear USB-C ports, and paddle shifters.

What Mazda CX-5 do most buyers choose?

The Mazda CX-5 years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

These higher-volume model years tend to be popular because they balance newer features, broad availability, and strong pricing. More listings also give you a better chance of finding the colour, trim, and equipment mix you want.

What is the Mazda CX-5's resale value?

Most CX-5 model years are down year over year, and several recent years show double-digit declines. That pattern can work in your favour if you're shopping used, since it creates more room to find a better-priced example.

The 2018, 2014, and 2016 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Mazda CX-5 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The only available powertrain is the carryover SkyActiv-G 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder, producing 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque and paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
• Tech: The 2026 CX-5 gets a 12.9-inch touchscreen on all trims, Google built-in, native Google Maps, the Google Gemini AI voice assistant, and access to the Google Play Store.
• Safety: Every trim includes adaptive cruise control with speed limit assist, automatic emergency braking with turn-across traffic detection and head-on collision mitigation, rear automatic emergency braking with rear cross-traffic alert and pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, blind spot monitors, vehicle exit warning, driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and dynamic guidelines for the mandatory rear-view camera.
• Starting price: The lineup spans three trims from $39,690 for the GX trim to $45,590 for the GT trim.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
