What should I look for when buying a used Honda Civic Hatchback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: A Honda Civic Hatchback with the manual transmission is expected to average 8.5 litres per 100 kilometres in city driving, 6.3 on the highway, and 7.5 combined. Choose the CVT, and those figures drop to 7.7 L/100 km city, 6.3 highway, and 7.1 combined.
• Infotainment: Sport Touring trim brings a 10.2-inch digital instrumentation display and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, a navigation system, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing, a package of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist and low-speed follow capability, automatic high-beam headlights, and traffic sign recognition system.

Which Honda Civic Hatchback trim should I buy?

The 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback offers these trims:

• Sport: This is the value-oriented trim, and it suits you if you want the Civic Hatchback’s core driving character and everyday practicality without moving up to the more feature-rich version.
• Sport Touring: This is the best-value trim if you want the most complete package, adding the 10.2-inch digital instrumentation display, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, navigation, and a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system.

What Honda Civic Hatchback do most buyers choose?

The Honda Civic Hatchback years with the most listings are 2018, 2023, and 2019.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, colour, and price. They also often attract shoppers looking for a balance of value, features, and availability.

What is the Honda Civic Hatchback's resale value?

Most model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used because it creates more room for value. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer model years, while the older years show smaller changes. That pattern suggests you can often find stronger pricing on recent examples without giving up the Civic Hatchback’s core appeal.

The 2018, 2019, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Honda Civic Hatchback safe?

• 2024: 7/10
• 2022: 9/10

Honda equips every 2024 Civic with Honda Sensing, a package of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS).

For the safest used buy, the 2022 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.

Should I buy a used Honda Civic Hatchback now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −12.19% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −5.66%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2018 model has the most listings at a current average price of $18,825 CAD. The Honda Civic Hatchback offers a sporty driving feel, a roomy cabin, and everyday practicality that make it easy to live with.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: In Canada, the Civic hatch skips over the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque that acts as the base powerplant in other markets. Instead, we default here to the turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine. It provides 180 hp at 6,000 rpm and 177 lb-ft of torque between 1,700 rpm and 4,500 rpm.
• Tech: Sport Touring trim brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, a navigation system, and a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system.
• Safety: Honda equips every 2024 Civic with Honda Sensing, a package of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), and the Sport Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.
• Starting price: Base prices range from $36,094 to $39,594.

If you're buying used today, the 2018 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
