What should I look for when buying a used Ford Mustang?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams
- Infotainment: a large 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen with the Sync 4 infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration
- Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder EcoBoost will return 10.8 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, 7.1 on the highway, and 9.2 in combined driving. The Performance Pack increases the numbers to 11.1/8.2/9.8 The V8-powered GT is rated at 15.8 L/100 km city, 9.8 hwy, and 13.1 combined with the automatic transmission. Which Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

- EcoBoost: The entry trim brings the 2.3-litre turbo four-cylinder, 13.2-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, and strong value for shoppers who want the Mustang experience at the lowest starting price.
- EcoBoost Premium: This trim adds a more upscale cabin presentation with the single-enclosure screen layout and is a good fit if you want more comfort and a richer interior feel.
- GT: The GT adds the 5.0-litre V8, six-speed manual transmission, and the more serious muscle-car character many buyers want.
- GT Premium: This is the best-value trim for shoppers who want the V8 experience with the more upscale equipment and convertible availability.
- Dark Horse: The Dark Horse adds 500 hp and several performance enhancements for buyers who want the most focused factory Mustang in the lineup.
What Ford Mustang do most buyers choose?
The Ford Mustang years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

I put 16000 miles on a new 2020 Mustang. Absolutely no issues. It also got great gas mileage. I averaged 29.6 mpg for the whole time I owned the car. I had the manual which was a little stiff when I first got it but worked in great.

Why it stands out
The 2025 Ford Mustang stands out because it continues one of Detroit’s most enduring nameplates while keeping the familiar front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout and offering both coupe and convertible body styles. Ford introduced this seventh generation in 2022 ahead of its 2024 model year launch, and the car is assembled at Ford’s Flat Rock production facility in Michigan. For buyers, that means the Mustang still delivers the classic formula that has made it iconic, but in a current-generation package with a broad range of trims and powertrains.
For 2025, the Mustang is available with Ford’s EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3-litre inline four-cylinder engine on base and mainstream trims, while upper trims can be had with 5.0-litre V8 power. A 10-speed automatic transmission is the most common, though some trims are available with six-speed manuals. At launch, the seventh-generation Mustang was offered in Canada in five trim levels: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, Ford Mustang GT, GT Premium, and Mustang Dark Horse, and a Dark Horse Premium trim was added for 2025. That breadth of choice is a major part of the Mustang’s appeal, especially for shoppers who want a performance car that can be tailored to different budgets and preferences.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. The 2024 and 2025 Ford Mustangs have been reported to suffer from powertrain vibrations, inconsistent interior build quality, issues with the limited-slip differential, and problems with the electronic stability control system. The EcoBoost engine may get good fuel economy, but it requires premium fuel. Used examples are still limited in Canada, and most listings do not yet show a meaningful discount versus buying new, although EcoBoost convertibles can be found for less than new vehicle prices.
