For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is lowest when you focus on later model years and inspect high-performance examples carefully.
What should I look for when buying a used Dodge Charger?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Active Driving Assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with vulnerable road user detection, active lane management, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, and drowsy driver detection.
- Infotainment: A 12.3-inch touchscreen display with Uconnect 5, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and built-in navigation on Plus models.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada’s fuel economy estimates land at 14.1 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, 9.0 on the highway, and 11.8 combined for the 2026 Dodge Charger R/T. In the Scat Pack, expect to burn 14.5 L/100 km city, 10.0 highway, and 12.5 combined.
Which Dodge Charger trim should I buy?
The 2026 Dodge Charger offers these trims:
- Charger R/T: The entry point brings 420 hp and standard all-wheel drive, making it the most accessible way into the lineup.
- Charger Scat Pack: This trim adds 550 hp, an eight-speed automatic, standard Brembo brakes with six-piston front calipers, Launch Control, Line Lock, and drive modes for buyers who want the most performance-focused gas model.
- Charger Scat Pack Plus: This version adds the larger 16-inch display, wireless charging, built-in navigation, and a 360-degree camera with additional parking views, making it the best-value choice for shoppers who want more convenience and tech.
What Dodge Charger do most buyers choose?
The Dodge Charger years with the most listings are 2022, 2023, and 2021.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 149 | 30.2% |
| 2023 | 120 | 30% |
| 2021 | 77 | 35.1% |
| 2018 | 70 | 32.9% |
| 2020 | 64 | 29.7% |
| 2017 | 60 | 33.3% |
Higher-volume years tend to be the easiest for you to shop because they usually give you more choice in trims, colours, and equipment. They also tend to be the years most sellers and buyers are focused on, which can make pricing and comparison shopping more straightforward.
What is the Dodge Charger's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | $17,945 CAD | −20.77% |
| 2022 | $35,979 CAD | −15.3% |

| 2016 | $17,050 CAD | +9.49% |
| 2015 | $17,040 CAD | +14.11% |
Most Charger model years are down year over year, which can work in your favour if you’re shopping used. The biggest drops are concentrated in the more recent mainstream years, while a few older and newer examples are moving in the opposite direction.
The 2015, 2016, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.

Should I buy a used Dodge Charger now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2022 model is at −15.3% versus a year ago, and the 2021 model is at −10.36%.
- Deal availability: The 2022 model has 30.2% good and great deals, and the 2021 model has 35.1%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2022 model has the most listings at a current average price of $35,979 CAD. The Dodge Charger offers a rare mix of size, comfort, rear-drive attitude, and serious performance that gives it a distinctive character across the lineup.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The 2026 Dodge Charger is offered with multiple powertrain options that include both electric motors and gasoline-fueled engines. In electrified form, the 2026 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T sends 456 horsepower to all four wheels, while the ultra-powerful Charger Daytona Scat Pack tips the scales with 630 hp. The gasoline-fueled Charger range starts with the 420-hp Charger R/T, and the Charger Scat Pack we tested boasts 550 hp.
- Tech: A 10.25-inch freestanding digital instrument cluster display is standard in the 2026 Charger Scat Pack, a 12.3-inch touchscreen display sits proudly in the centre of the dash, and Dodge’s latest Uconnect 5 software offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.

- Starting price: The 2026 Dodge Charger Scat Pack coupe costs $72,390 CAD.
If you're buying used today, the 2022 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Customers say
The Dodge Charger has consistently impressed drivers across its various model years, praised primarily for its powerful performance, spacious and comfortable interior, and overall sporty appeal. Owners admire the exhilarating driving experience offered by its strong engine options, especially the V8 variants. However, common criticisms revolve around safety features and fuel economy, with some wishing for more modern technology and luxury elements inside the car. Why it stands out
The 2020 Dodge Charger stands out by combining sedan practicality with a distinctly performance-focused personality. It offers four full doors and five-passenger seating, along with a spacious cabin, large rear seats, and a large trunk. That mix makes it appealing to buyers who want a car that can handle everyday duties without giving up the sense of fun that usually comes with more specialised performance models.
Its appeal is broadened by a wide variety of potent powertrains and the availability of all-wheel drive. The Charger also provides the latest tech and infotainment features, which helps it feel modern even with its classic nameplate. At the same time, it is not without compromises: fuel economy is poor, and advanced safety features are not standard.
