Should I buy a used Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −13.48% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −5.07%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 35.1% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 33.6%.

Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The Chevy Silverado 2500HD comes standard with a 6.6-litre V8 gas engine delivering 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, and an optional 6.6-litre Duramax turbodiesel V8 with 470 ponies and 975 lb-ft of twist is available.
- Tech: Chevy goes bigger on tech in the 2024 Silverado 2500HD with a 12.3-inch configurable gauge cluster and a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen as standard, starting on the LT trim.
- Safety: The Silverado 2500 HD doesn’t go quite as far as the Ford Super Duty, and adaptive cruise control is optional for all trims.
- Starting price: In Canada, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD starts at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $58,799 CAD for a base Work Truck in 2WD with a regular cab and long bed.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Reviewed a 2012 Chevrolet LT Crew Cab 4WD on Jun 6, 2026
Before purchasing a used Silverado 2500HD, I would strongly recommend checking the overall condition of the truck with special attention to rust, the transmission, suspension, and maintenance history. Look closely at the rocker panels, cab corners, wheel wells, frame rails, brake lines, and fuel lines for excessive rust, flaking metal, or holes. During the test drive, make sure the transmission shifts smoothly without slipping, shuddering, hard shifts, or delayed engagement into drive or reverse, and ask whether it is the original transmission or if it has ever been rebuilt or replaced. Check the engine for oil leaks, coolant leaks, unusual noises, excessive exhaust smoke, or warning lights, and ask if major components such as the water pump, radiator, or thermostat have been replaced. Pay close attention to the steering and suspension by listening for clunks, checking for loose steering, and looking for uneven tire wear that could indicate worn ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, or other front-end components. Also inspect the brakes for pulsation, soft pedal feel, or rusted lines, and examine the tires for uneven wear, dry rot, or signs that an alignment or suspension issue may be present. Most importantly, ask for maintenance records and receipts for major repairs, as a well-documented truck is generally a much safer purchase than one with an unknown service history. For a high-mileage Silverado 2500HD, rust, transmission condition, front-end wear, four-wheel-drive operation, and cooling system maintenance are the areas most likely to lead to expensive repairs if they have been neglected.

CarGurus recommends the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
Summary
With 302 currently listed for sale and an average price of $73,968 CAD, 34.4% of 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD stands out as a heavy-duty truck that blends serious capability with a surprisingly broad range of configurations and equipment. It can be had with regular, extended, or crew cab layouts, and the cabin can be fitted with features such as a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a subscription-based Wi‑Fi hotspot, and a 3.5-inch digital instrument display. Chevrolet also gives it a distinctive, aggressive look, and the truck’s large size and bluff front end make it unmistakable on the road.
Capability is the Silverado 2500HD’s main calling card. The standard engine is a gas 6.6-litre V8 with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 6.6-litre Duramax turbodiesel V8 produces 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. It can tow up to 9,000 kilograms with a conventional hitch and 10,000 kilograms with a fifth-wheel setup, and Chevrolet pairs that strength with useful trailering hardware such as a hitch, seven-pin connector, trailering mirrors, a rearview camera, and hitch-guidance technology. Available driver-assistance features like blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, park assist, and adaptive cruise control with trailer monitoring add to its appeal, especially for buyers who want a big truck that is easier to manage in tight spaces.
There are a few trade-offs. The Silverado 2500HD’s size can limit trail use, and its styling will not suit everyone. It also drinks a little more fuel than some rivals, and some competitors offer nicer cabins or better handling. Even so, the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD remains compelling because it combines heavy-duty strength, a wide spread of trims and body styles, and a level of technology that makes it feel more approachable than its size suggests.
