The Chevrolet Malibu's current nationwide average price is $18,755 CAD, and its nationwide average price reached a low of $18,755 CAD over the past year. That puts the model's current pricing right at its yearly low point, which can be encouraging if you're shopping now.
Recently, prices have come down for the 2022, 2023, and 2024 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is generally lower in the newer generations, while earlier years call for more careful inspection and a closer look at maintenance history.
What Chevrolet Malibu do most buyers choose?
The Chevrolet Malibu years with the most listings are 2023, 2024, and 2022.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 262 | 28.6% |
| 2024 | 219 | 29.7% |
| 2022 | 176 | 33.5% |
| 2025 | 125 | 28.8% |
| 2021 | 102 | 35.3% |
| 2019 | 92 | 27.2% |
These higher-volume years tend to attract more shoppers because they combine newer features, broader availability, and a familiar midsize-sedan formula. More listings also give you a better chance of comparing trims, colours, and prices before you decide.
What is the Chevrolet Malibu's resale value?

I absolutely enjoy every aspect of this car. It came exactly like I wanted it to and had features that I was not expecting. All in all I'm very happy with my purchase.

Reviewed a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu on Mar 1, 2026
I purchased a 2020 Chevy Malibu on February 14th, 2024. Since then, the vehicle has been plagued with issues. The check engine light is constantly on, and when a sensor fails, multiple problems seem to arise. For example, the first time the check engine light appeared, the dash dinged and displayed messages like “steering assist reduced, drive with care,” while all the gauges would jump around. It also showed “low fuel,” despite the tank being full, and the message “service ESC.” The root cause was the throttle body, which needed to be replaced. Subsequently, similar issues occurred, and different parts had to be replaced, including the mass airflow sensor, the accelerator pedal, the brake vacuum pump sensor, the brake vacuum pump, and components related to the charging system. At one point, there was a ground issue. Then there is the constant “shift into park” after parking the car. Overall, this car has been nothing but trouble, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

The car has more features than you think for the price. Heated seats, android and apple auto, a turbo. It's not the pinical of luxury, but it definitely gives you enough if you are on a budget.

CarGurus recommends the 2023 Chevrolet Malibu
Summary
With 264 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,042 CAD, 27.7% of 2023 Chevrolet Malibu listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Chevrolet Malibu 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Chevrolet Malibu stands out as a roomy, value-focused midsize sedan with a long-running reputation for being cheaper than many rivals. By this point in its life cycle, it had the benefit of the Malibu’s strongest reliability record among front-wheel-drive generations, and it was known for generating far fewer owner complaints than earlier versions. It also offered a comfortable cabin and easy-to-use features, which helped it remain appealing even as the model aged.
For 2023, the Malibu was essentially a carry-over from 2022, so its appeal came from a familiar formula rather than a major redesign. Buyers could still find the standard 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the car returned 7.6 L/100 km combined. The infotainment setup used a seven-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while an eight-inch screen was optional on upper trims and standard on Premier trim. Chevrolet had also added wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity in 2021, and by 2022 some active safety features became standard, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and forward collision warnings.
That said, the 2023 Chevrolet Malibu was not the most refined choice in its class, and its driving character was described as dull. It also lacked the standard safety equipment found in some rivals, so shoppers needed to weigh its generous space, straightforward technology, and strong value against its less polished feel.
