What should I look for when buying a used Chevrolet Equinox?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: The Equinox’s Natural Resources Canada-rated 8.7 litres per 100 kilometres combined (9.2 city, 8.1 highway) is comparable to the non-hybrids in the group, and AWD models are rated at 8.9 and 9.6 L/100 km respectively in the combined and city categories and the same 8.1 on the highway.

Which Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2026 Chevrolet Equinox offers these trims:

• LT: The entry LT gives you the standard chrome grille mesh, 17-inch wheels, cloth seats, and the base front-wheel-drive setup; it’s the best-value trim if you want the most accessible way into the lineup.
• Activ: Activ adds a more prominent lower front fascia, more chrome trim, all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, microfibre and Evotex seats, and standard all-wheel drive.
• RS: RS brings more black trim, a wider grille, standard 19-inch wheels, Evotex upholstery with red stitching, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and standard all-wheel drive.

What Chevrolet Equinox do most buyers choose?

The Chevrolet Equinox years with the most listings are 2025, 2023, and 2024.

Those higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a wider selection of trims, prices, and equipment levels. They also tend to be easier to compare side by side, which helps you find the right balance of value and features.

What is the Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

Most Equinox model years are down by double digits year over year, which creates better opportunities for used buyers. The steepest drops are concentrated in newer and mid-cycle examples, while a few older years have fallen by smaller amounts.

The 2016, 2015, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Chevrolet Equinox safe?

• 2026: 7/10
• 2025: 9/10
• 2023: 6/10
• 2022: 7/10

The 2026 Equinox comes standard with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, high beam assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert with braking, and rear park assist.

For the safest used buy, the 2025 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.

Should I buy a used Chevrolet Equinox now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2026 model is at −19.51% versus a year ago, and the 2025 model is at −12.23%.
• Deal availability: The 2026 model has 37.6% good and great deals, and the 2025 model has 37.9%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $34,225 CAD. The Chevrolet Equinox offers a roomy cabin and a practical, easy-to-live-with character that suits everyday family use.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The only available engine is a turbocharged 1.5-litre inline-four-cylinder making 175 horsepower, and AWD models are rated at 203 lb-ft of torque.
• Tech: An 11-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.3-inch touchscreen are standard, and the Equinox retains wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Safety: The latest model adds a surround-view camera system, a digital rear-view mirror, rear pedestrian alert, and traffic sign recognition through the Safety and Technology Package.
• Starting price: Pricing starts at $36,899 CAD for an LT model with FWD.

If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
