Is the Chevrolet Cruze a good car?
Yes — the Chevrolet Cruze has broad appeal for used-car shoppers who want comfort, fuel efficiency, and a polished driving feel. The all-generations owner rating is 4.33/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners repeatedly praise the Cruze for its smooth handling, spacious interior, and strong fuel economy. Many also like the technology features and the comfortable, easy-to-live-with character that shows up across the model range.
20.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Chevrolet Cruze models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently point to the Cruze’s comfort, efficiency, and well-equipped cabin as strengths, especially in later model years. The later Cruze generations also bring a more reassuring ownership experience than the earliest years, which helps explain why many used shoppers focus on the newer models.
- Owners rate the Chevrolet Cruze between 3.0 and 4.67 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is highest in the earlier years, while later models present a more appealing balance of value and everyday usability.
What Chevrolet Cruze do most buyers choose?
The Chevrolet Cruze years with the most listings are 2017, 2018, and 2016.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2017 | 287 | 28.6% |
| 2018 | 277 | 28.5% |
| 2016 | 240 | 22.1% |
| 2015 | 197 | 17.8% |
| 2019 | 163 | 31.3% |
| 2014 | 161 | 11.8% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they combine broad availability with the Cruze’s later-generation improvements in comfort, technology, and efficiency. More listings also give you more chances to compare condition, equipment, and price.
What is the Chevrolet Cruze's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2014 | $5,681 CAD | −22.17% |
| 2019 | $14,051 CAD | −14.44% |
| 2015 | $7,436 CAD | −13.0% |
| 2016 | $8,858 CAD | −11.57% |
| 2017 | $10,870 CAD | −11.54% |
| 2018 | $12,207 CAD | −11.13% |
The table shows broad year-over-year price declines across every model year listed, which can work in your favour if you're shopping used. The drops are all double-digit, so the market has moved down meaningfully rather than gradually. Among the newer years, the changes are clustered fairly closely together.
The 2018, 2017, and 2016 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze stands out as a compact car that blends everyday practicality with a more polished feel than many shoppers expect in this class. Chevrolet’s second-generation redesign brought better fuel economy, more rear seat room, and modern safety and infotainment technologies, while the available hatchback body style added a useful dose of versatility. For buyers who want a small car that feels well equipped without giving up comfort, the Cruze has a strong case.
This model year also benefits from a well-rounded equipment list. The Cruze came with a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine making 153 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, and it could be paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Chevrolet also offered a 1.6-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder engine starting in 2017, with 137 horsepower, 240 pound-feet of torque, and fuel consumption as low as 6.3 L/100 km combined, or 4.5 L/100 km highway on some sedan trims. Even the base Cruze L included a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OnStar, Bluetooth, keyless entry, and steering wheel-mounted controls, which helps explain why the car feels more modern than its price might suggest.
There are limits, though. The Cruze’s design is fairly bland, and some interior materials feel cheap. Still, the 2017 model is appealing because it combines good driving dynamics, useful technology, and strong efficiency with a reputation that is better than the original Cruze’s. For shoppers focused on value, comfort, and low running costs, it remains an attractive used-car choice.
