New & Used 2026 Subaru Forester for Sale nearPort Perry, ON

Is the 2026 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2026 Subaru Forester earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The 2026 Forester is especially compelling if you want a compact SUV that leans into utility and confidence in rough conditions. Subaru’s Wilderness treatment adds all-terrain tyres, increased ground clearance, improved approach, breakover and departure angles, drivetrain changes for better traction, underbody protection, and a full-size all-terrain spare tyre. That makes it a strong fit if you value capability over flash.

The trade-offs are clear: the design may not suit everyone, performance is described as sluggish, and the infotainment system is a weak point.

With 39.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market availability if you want to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2026 Forester’s reliability case is built around Subaru’s practical, safety-minded approach and the model’s emphasis on durability-oriented hardware. The Wilderness version adds underbody protection, a full-size all-terrain spare tyre, and drivetrain changes aimed at better traction, while the broader 2026 lineup also gets a new centre console design and updated protection for rear passengers in a collision.

Subaru’s EyeSight suite and the added collision-protection updates suggest a vehicle engineered with long-term use in mind. The performance content also points to a CVT that does a good job of keeping the engine in a responsive part of its rev range, which is a useful sign for everyday drivability.

If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Forester’s sluggish powertrain and busy infotainment may be more frustrating than mechanically troublesome.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Subaru Forester?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Wilderness stands apart with a lifted suspension, all-terrain tyres, exclusive wheel designs, extra body cladding, anodized copper accents, Wilderness badges, water-resistant artificial leather, all-weather floor mats, and a rubber cargo mat. Base trims will not have that rugged look or the same adventure-focused interior treatment.
• Powertrain: The Forester Wilderness uses a normally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. Subaru says turbocharging is not offered here, and the Wilderness gets a shorter final-drive ratio for better low-speed responsiveness off-road.
• Safety package: EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centring assist. Most Forester trims also include active blind-spot monitoring with steering intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, and Automatic Emergency Steering.
• Infotainment: Nearly all trims use an 11.6-inch portrait touchscreen with Subaru Multimedia Plus software, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a three-year complimentary MySubaru connected service subscription. The system does not include a conversational digital voice assistant.
• Fuel efficiency: Subaru estimates the Wilderness at 9.0 L/100 km in combined driving, and the evaluation returned 10.4 L/100 km.

Which 2026 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2026 Subaru Forester is offered in 5 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Sport, Limited, and Premier.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point to the gas-only Forester lineup, so it makes sense if you want the Forester’s core practicality and safety focus without paying for higher-end extras.
• Touring: This is the best-value choice if you want a more complete everyday package, since it should give you a stronger mix of comfort and equipment without pushing too far up the price ladder.
• Sport: Choose this if you want a more style-forward version of the Forester, especially if appearance matters as much as utility.
• Limited: This is the better pick if you want a more upscale-feeling Forester and are willing to pay for it.
• Premier: Buy this if you want the most fully equipped gas-only Forester and are comfortable paying for the top trim.

The safety package note is simple: EyeSight is the core driver-assistance suite, and most trims also add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Automatic Emergency Steering.

Is the 2026 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2026 Subaru Forester earned a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, and the redesigned 2025 Forester received five-star ratings in each individual NHTSA assessment, plus a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru calls its camera-based driver-assistance package EyeSight, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centring assist. It also adds automatic throttle management when the driver accelerates into an obstacle and a Lead Vehicle Start Alert.

In addition to EyeSight, most Forester trims include active blind-spot monitoring with steering intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, and Automatic Emergency Steering. Emergency Stop Assist with Safe Lane Selection can bring the SUV to a halt if the driver becomes unresponsive while adaptive cruise control is active.

The main caveat is that the Forester did not receive the highest Top Safety Pick+ honour, with an Acceptable result in a rear-passenger safety test cited as the reason.

Should I buy a 2026 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• Choose the 2026 if: 39.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

• Choose the 2026 if: Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

• Choose the 2026 if: Subaru leans harder into rugged Wilderness capability and updated rear-seat protection this year.

• Consider the 2025 if: It refined the Forester with a better-equipped base model, more advanced tech and safety, and a quieter cabin.

The bottom line: the 2026 Forester is the better pick if you want the most capability-focused version of the nameplate, especially in Wilderness form. If you are more price-sensitive and want a proven, practical Forester with a calmer personality, the 2025 remains the sensible alternative.
