New & Used 2026 Subaru Forester for Sale nearKirkland Lake, ON

Is the 2026 Subaru Forester a good car?

The 2026 Subaru Forester earns an 7.5/10 expert rating, and the standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The 2026 Forester stands out most clearly in Wilderness form, where Subaru leans into off-road capability rather than trying to make it feel like a soft-road crossover. That makes it a strong fit if you want a compact SUV that feels more confident when conditions get rough, while still keeping everyday utility and safety-minded updates in the mix.

The trade-offs are worth noting: the design may not suit everyone, performance is described as sluggish, and the infotainment system is a weak point.

With 38.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Subaru Forester reliable?

The 2026 Subaru Forester is presented as a practical, safety-focused SUV with standard all-wheel drive and a reputation for useful, confidence-inspiring capability. Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance suite and the updated rear-seat safety improvements reinforce that sense of durability and everyday dependability.

Its 2.5-litre four-cylinder and CVT are described as working smoothly enough in normal driving, with the transmission doing a good job of keeping the engine in a responsive part of its rev range. Subaru also highlights improved traction logic in the Wilderness model, plus added underbody protection for tougher conditions.

If you plan to keep one long term, the main ownership risk is that the Forester’s slower performance and busy infotainment could become more noticeable over time than any mechanical concern.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Subaru Forester?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Wilderness trim is the most distinctive version, with a lifted suspension, all-terrain tyres, extra body cladding, anodized copper accents, Wilderness badges, and an interior designed for easier clean-up after muddy or dusty use. The base gas trims are more conventional, so you should check whether the features you want are standard on the trim you’re considering.
• Powertrain: The Forester Wilderness uses a normally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. Subaru says the Wilderness gets a shorter final-drive ratio for better low-speed responsiveness off-road, and the AWD system includes X-Mode Dual Mode settings for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centring assist. It also adds automatic throttle management and Lead Vehicle Start Alert. Most Forester trims also include active blind-spot monitoring with steering intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, and Automatic Emergency Steering.
• Infotainment: Nearly all trims use an 11.6-inch portrait touchscreen with Subaru Multimedia Plus software, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a three-year complimentary subscription to MySubaru connected services. The system does not include a conversational digital voice assistant.
• Fuel efficiency: Subaru estimates 9.0 L/100 km in combined driving for the Wilderness, and the evaluation average was 10.4 L/100 km.

Which 2026 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2026 Subaru Forester is offered in 5 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Sport, Limited, and Premier.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Forester’s core practicality and all-wheel-drive confidence without paying for extras you may not use.
• Touring: This is the trim to target if you want a more complete everyday package and the best balance of equipment and value.
• Sport: Choose this if you want a more expressive look and a slightly more distinctive personality without moving all the way up the range.
• Limited: This suits you if you want a more upscale-feeling Forester with more comfort and convenience equipment.
• Premier: Pick this if you want the most fully equipped conventional Forester trim and are willing to pay for it.

Most Forester trims include active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Automatic Emergency Steering, while EyeSight is standard across the line.

Is the 2026 Subaru Forester safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru calls its camera-based driver-assistance package EyeSight. It includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centring assist. It also adds automatic throttle management when you accelerate toward an obstacle, plus Lead Vehicle Start Alert.

Most Forester trims also include active blind-spot monitoring with steering intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, and Automatic Emergency Steering. Emergency Stop Assist with Safe Lane Selection can bring the SUV to a halt if the driver becomes unresponsive while adaptive cruise control is active.

Should I buy a 2026 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• You want the Wilderness-focused version with stronger off-road capability and updated rear-passenger protection.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It offers a better-equipped base model, more advanced tech and safety, and a quieter cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive Forester experience and value the Wilderness model’s added capability, the 2026 is the one to watch. If you’re mainly shopping for a practical, well-rounded Forester and want to prioritise value, the 2025 remains the safer alternative to compare closely.
