Why it stands out

The 2026 RAM 3500 stands out as a heavy-duty truck that has moved well beyond its origins as a bare-bones workhorse. Its appeal now comes from the blend of capability and comfort: the latest Ram 3500 is described as having a powerful Cummins turbo diesel engine, class-leading maximum towing and payload capacities, and the kind of technology buyers expect in a daily driver, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, large touchscreen infotainment systems, cameras, and standard safety features. That combination makes it distinctive among heavy-duty pickups, especially for buyers who need serious hauling ability but do not want to give up modern convenience.

What also defines the 2026 RAM 3500 is how thoroughly it has been developed into a more upscale truck. The fifth-generation model adds a stronger frame, new suspension, a new transmission for the Hemi models, LED lighting, and a more aerodynamic design. Inside, it borrows heavily from the Ram 1500 with upgraded materials and available luxury amenities, plus features such as a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, a 12-inch vertical infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 750-watt Harman Kardon 17-speaker audio system. It can tow more than 15,875 kilograms and carry almost 3,600 kilograms of payload, which reinforces its work credentials even as it becomes more refined.

There are still trade-offs, though. The truck’s gargantuan proportions can be difficult to manage in towns and cities, the diesel engine is noisy, and safety technology is described as limited in the broader pros and cons summary. It is also a pricey used buy, with fifth-generation examples starting just under $40,000 and many early trucks showing well over 100,000 kilometres. Even so, for shoppers who want maximum capability with a surprising amount of comfort and technology, the 2026 RAM 3500 has a clear identity.
