Why it stands out
The 2026 Lexus RX stands out because it is part of a long-running luxury SUV line that helped define the crossover formula in the first place. Lexus built its reputation for comfort and reliability around the RX, and the model has also held its value better than the average luxury SUV. For buyers, that combination makes it appealing as a used luxury choice that aims to be refined and dependable rather than flashy or overtly sporty.
What makes this generation distinctive is how much it leans into efficiency, technology, and everyday comfort. The RX 350 uses a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, while the RX 350h hybrid uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid setup and is the fuel efficiency leader at 6.5 L/100 km combined. Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard across the range, and the RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid joined the line-up for the 2024 model year with an estimated 60 kilometres of electric-only range. The RX also received strong crash-test results from both NHTSA and IIHS, which adds to its appeal for family buyers.
There are trade-offs, though. Lexus prioritizes comfort over performance, so even the sportier versions are not especially sporty, and the F Sport suspension hurts ride comfort for only modest handling gains. The styling is also bold enough to divide opinion, with a large grille and some unusual body details. Even so, the 2026 Lexus RX remains distinctive because it blends strong reliability, good fuel economy, standard safety equipment, and a premium feel in a package that has long been one of the most influential luxury SUVs on the market.
