New & Used 2026 Land Rover Defender for Sale nearSherwood Park, AB

Is the 2026 Land Rover Defender a good car?

The 2026 Land Rover Defender earns an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

It stands out because it blends serious off-road ability with everyday civility, and it stays closer to Land Rover’s tough roots than much of the rest of the lineup. For 2026, you also get subtle styling updates, a larger touchscreen, and new colour and accessory options, which help keep it feeling current without changing its core character.

The main trade-offs are that fuel economy is poor and it gets expensive quickly. Even so, the Defender’s combination of off-road capability and everyday usability makes it a strong fit if you want a rugged SUV that still feels livable day to day.

27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Land Rover Defender reliable?

The Defender is presented as a refined, well-built SUV that keeps its off-road focus while remaining easy to live with. Its standard four-wheel drive, robust off-road hardware, and quiet cabin all point to a vehicle designed for demanding use without feeling overly crude.

Land Rover says the Defender’s Terrain Response 2 system simplifies off-road driving by grouping settings into easy-to-understand modes, and the 2026 update adds Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control. The brand also highlights the Defender’s strong refinement, with a quiet interior and an optional air suspension that helps smooth out rough roads.

If you buy used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is that its premium hardware and complex options can make repairs and upkeep more costly over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Land Rover Defender?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Defender’s body styles and appearance details matter a lot, from the two-door 90 and four-door 110 to the stretched 130 and the Octa high-performance model. Base versions are more restrained, while higher trims add more distinctive styling, premium materials, and extra equipment.
• Powertrain: You can find a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder, a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six with mild hybrid assistance, a supercharged 5.0-litre V8, and the Octa’s twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8. The lineup spans from efficient-for-the-class to very high performance, but fuel use rises quickly as you move up.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a surround-view camera system, and a driver attention monitor. Those features are broadly standard, so you should confirm they are present on the specific trim you are considering.
• Infotainment: For 2026, the Defender gets a 13.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster on most trim levels. The system is stylish and easy to use, but it can take a while to boot and needs deliberate inputs.
• Fuel efficiency: The Defender 110 is rated at 12.0 L/100 km combined with the four-cylinder and just a tick higher with the six. The Defender Octa is rated at 14.2 L/100 km combined.

Which 2026 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2026 Land Rover Defender is offered in 6 trim levels: 90 S, 110, 130, X, Trophy Edition, and Octa.

Here's the short version:

• 90 S: This is the entry point, and it makes the Defender’s core appeal accessible if you want the rugged design and off-road capability without chasing the most expensive versions.
• 110: This is the best-value choice for most buyers because it balances everyday usability, broad availability, and the Defender’s core strengths without pushing too far up the price ladder.
• 130: Choose this if you want the stretched body style and more space-oriented packaging.
• X: This trim adds more blacked-out styling and a more aggressive look if you want the Defender to stand out visually.
• Trophy Edition: This is for buyers who want the most heritage-inspired appearance, including the Sandglow Yellow theme.
• Octa: This is the high-performance choice, with the most extreme capability and the most expensive hardware in the lineup.

The standard safety package is broad, but you should still verify the exact driver-assistance features on the trim you are shopping.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

Is the 2026 Land Rover Defender safe?

The Defender comes standard with adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a surround-view camera system, and a driver attention monitor.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

That standard safety suite is a strong part of the package, especially because it includes both active collision-avoidance tech and visibility aids. The main caveat is that official crash-test ratings for the current-generation Defender were not released at the time of writing.

Should I buy a 2026 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• You want the updated styling, larger touchscreen, and new colour and accessory options.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It offers the same rugged, refined Defender character with a broader established lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the latest Defender updates and are shopping the current market carefully, the 2026 is the better target. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2025 is worth a look because it delivers the same core appeal with potentially lower asking prices.

How does the 2026 Land Rover Defender compare to the 2026 Jeep Wrangler?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2026 Land Rover Defender:

• Pros: Stylish design, Multiple body styles, Impressive off-road capability.
• Cons: Poor fuel economy, Gets expensive quickly.

2026 Jeep Wrangler:

• Pros: Comfortable seats, Plenty of cargo space, Incredibly capable off-road.
• Cons: Poor fuel economy, Noisy, Cramped back seat.

Our experts score the 2026 Land Rover Defender 8.2/10 and the 2026 Jeep Wrangler 6.3/10. The Defender is the more polished and better-rounded choice if you want off-road ability without giving up as much everyday civility. The Wrangler still brings serious trail capability and strong cargo space, but it is noisier and less comfortable overall. If you want the more refined SUV, the Defender is the better fit; if you want a more traditional off-road tool, the Wrangler remains compelling.
