CarGurus Analysis: 2026 Ford Mustang
Summary
- With 145 currently listed for sale and an average price of $60,699 CAD, 31.7% of 2026 Ford Mustang listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Why it stands out
The 2026 Ford Mustang stands out because it keeps the formula that has made the nameplate endure: front-engine, rear-wheel drive performance in coupe and convertible body styles. Ford’s current generation Mustang was introduced in 2022 ahead of its 2024 model year launch, and it continues to be assembled at Ford’s Flat Rock production facility in Michigan. That combination of familiar layout and long-running heritage is a big part of its appeal, especially for buyers who want a traditional sports car with a clear identity.
For this generation, Ford offers the EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3-litre inline four-cylinder engine on base and mainstream trims, while upper trims can be had with 5.0-litre V8 power. A 10-speed automatic transmission is the most common, though some trims are available with six-speed manuals. At launch, the seventh-generation Mustang was available in Canada in five trim levels: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, Ford Mustang GT, GT Premium, and Mustang Dark Horse. Those choices give the car broad appeal, from more accessible daily-driver versions to more serious performance models.
There are a few caveats to keep in mind. The 2024 and 2025 Ford Mustangs have been reported to suffer from powertrain vibrations, inconsistent interior build quality, limited-slip differential problems, and issues with the electronic stability control system. The EcoBoost engine may also get good fuel economy, but it requires premium fuel. Even so, the 2026 Ford Mustang remains distinctive because it blends modern hardware with one of the most recognisable performance-car names in North America.

Is the 2026 Ford Mustang a good car?
The 2026 Ford Mustang is a good choice if you want a recognisably Mustang driving experience with a wide spread of performance options, from the EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3-litre engine to V8 power, plus coupe and convertible body styles. It keeps the familiar front-engine, rear-wheel drive formula that has defined the nameplate for generations, so you get the classic layout that many shoppers are looking for in a sports car.
That breadth is also part of the trade-off: ownership experience can vary quite a bit depending on the trim and engine you choose. The EcoBoost can deliver good fuel economy, but it requires premium fuel. For used shoppers, a well-sorted example with warranty repairs already completed is the safest bet.
With 30.7% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2026 Ford Mustang reliable?
The 2026 Ford Mustang is best approached as a car where condition and prior repairs matter a lot. It offers the familiar Mustang formula and a broad range of trims and engines, but used shoppers should pay close attention to how the car has been maintained and whether any warranty work has already been completed.
For long-term ownership, the main risk is buying a poorly sorted example and inheriting repair work that should already have been addressed.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Ford Mustang?
This is a moderate market for buyers, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a standout bargain.
- Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 140 listings available.
Should I buy a 2026 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2026 if:
- 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
The bottom line:
The 2026 is the right path if you want the current Mustang formula and are willing to shop carefully for a well-maintained example. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby model year may give you more room to compare prices and condition before you commit.
