Is the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox a good car?

Yes — the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The Equinox comes across as a straightforward compact crossover that does the basics well, with a stylish design, a well-executed interior, and easy-to-use technology. It is a good fit if you want an everyday SUV that feels polished rather than flashy.

The trade-offs are a smaller cargo area than some rivals, an irritating transmission, and fairly pedestrian performance. Even so, it remains a sensible choice if you value usability and a clean, modern presentation over outright capability.

35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Equinox is described as a competently executed crossover that does the basics well, and its expert assessment supports that view with a solid 7.5/10 overall score. Its powertrain is adequate for normal driving, and the cabin and technology are presented as easy to live with.

The performance notes suggest the drivetrain is not especially exciting, but it is workable for everyday use. If you want a used compact SUV that should be straightforward to own, the main long-term risk is more about living with its modest performance and transmission behaviour than about any obvious durability red flags.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Chevrolet Equinox?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LT has standard chrome grille mesh and 17-inch wheels, while the RS adds more black trim, a wider grille, and standard 19-inch wheels. The Activ brings a more prominent lower front fascia, more chrome trim, all-terrain tires, and unique microfibre and Evotex seats, while the LT uses cloth seats and the RS uses Evotex upholstery with red stitching.
• Powertrain: The only engine is a turbocharged 1.5-litre inline-four with 175 horsepower. FWD is limited to the LT, while AWD is optional on LT and standard on Activ and RS; AWD models use an eight-speed automatic and make 203 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, high beam assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert with braking, and rear park assist. The Safety and Technology Package adds a surround-view camera system, a digital rear-view mirror, rear pedestrian alert, and traffic sign recognition.
• Infotainment: You get an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch touchscreen, plus Google built-in apps, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The Equinox is rated at 8.7 L/100 km combined, 9.2 city, and 8.1 highway. AWD models are rated at 8.9 L/100 km combined and 9.6 city, with the same 8.1 highway figure.

Which 2026 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2026 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 3 trim levels: LT, Activ, and RS.

Here's the short version:

• LT: This is the best-value starting point if you want the lowest entry price and are happy with the standard cloth interior and 17-inch wheels. It also gives you the core tech and safety features without paying for the more style-focused trims.
• Activ: Choose this if you want the most distinctive look and the unique microfibre and Evotex seating treatment. It is the trim that leans most into rugged styling, but its main extra is all-terrain rubber rather than a major capability upgrade.
• RS: Pick this if you prefer the sportier appearance, with more black trim, a wider grille, standard 19-inch wheels, and Evotex upholstery with red stitching. It is the most style-forward choice in the lineup.

The Safety and Technology Package is the trim-related safety add-on to watch for if you want the surround-view camera system and related upgrades.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Chevrolet Equinox?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 371 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.17% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $36,693 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $36,693 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,394 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future buyers but may pressure resale values for current owners. If you buy at today’s softer pricing, you may have less depreciation risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average.

For a future seller, the key question will be whether the Equinox’s styling, tech, and everyday usability continue to attract compact-SUV shoppers. A model that remains easy to recommend should hold demand better than one that feels dated or compromised.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The 2026 Chevrolet Equinox received Good ratings in the updated moderate overlap front and side-impact tests from IIHS, along with Acceptable ratings in the whiplash and small overlap front tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, high beam assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert with braking, and rear park assist. GM also includes a vibrating driver’s seat for alerts and the Teen Driver system.

The Safety and Technology Package adds a surround-view camera system, a digital rear-view mirror, rear pedestrian alert, and traffic sign recognition. The mixed IIHS results are the main caveat to keep in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.17% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2026 keeps the redesigned Equinox’s polished styling and easy-to-use tech while adding a standard drive mode selector and a new Polar White exterior colour.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $34,376 CAD, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $36,693 CAD average.
• It brings a stronger sense of style and more standard equipment.

The bottom line: Choose the 2026 if you want the current model year’s softened pricing and a well-rounded compact crossover with strong everyday appeal. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2025 is the better value play, especially if you are comfortable giving up the newer year’s incremental updates.
