Why it stands out

The 2026 BMW 2 Series stands out because it stays true to BMW’s “Ultimate Driving Machine” ethos while remaining the brand’s entry point. It is aimed at buyers who want a compact, enthusiast-focused car rather than a pure luxury cruiser, and its rear-wheel-drive layout helps give it the kind of driving character that separates it from rivals such as the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA. For shoppers who value a spirited drive and a relatively accessible price point, that combination is a major part of its appeal.

The current 2 Series Coupe is bigger and heavier than before, and it is no longer offered as a convertible or with a manual transmission. Even so, it brings stronger performance than the previous version, with the base 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four producing 255 horsepower and the 3.0-litre turbo inline-six making 382 hp. Standard equipment on the base 230i Coupe includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with automatic high beams, leatherette seating surfaces, power-adjustable front sport seats, three-zone climate control, an 8.8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports, and a 10-speaker audio system. Safety tech such as forward collision warning and lane departure warning is also standard.

Higher up the range, the M240i xDrive Coupe adds a more performance-oriented set of standard features, including 19-inch alloy wheels, M Sport brakes, keyless entry, push-button start, hands-free tailgate operation, heated front seats with leather upholstery, and a heated steering wheel. The lineup also includes available technology such as BMW’s Live Cockpit Pro, a head-up display, gesture control, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, and self-parking functionality. The trade-off is that the 2 Series remains a compact coupe, so buyers still have to accept a firm ride and a cramped back seat.
