Is the 2025 Tesla Model Y a good car?

The 2025 Tesla Model Y stands out as a compact luxury crossover that blends EV practicality with unusually strong packaging. It was based on the Tesla Model 3 and shares 70% to 75% of its parts, but it is taller, has coupe-like SUV styling, and uses a rear hatch that gives it more versatility than the sedan it is related to.

For 2025, the Model Y’s biggest distinction is the “Juniper” refresh, with the first examples reaching customers in March 2025. That update brought an entirely new front end and bumper, tailgate, and taillights, along with front and rear light bars and a more modern appearance. It also added retuned suspension, improved aerodynamics, more sound deadening, upgraded interior materials, ambient lighting, an updated audio system with more speakers, heated seats in the front and rear, a panoramic glass roof, and optional Full Self-Driving (Supervised). The top speed was 250 km/h, and the range could reach up to 542 kilometres in certain models.

The 2025 Tesla Model Y is also appealing because it remains easy to live with as an electric vehicle. Standard equipment includes a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen that doubles as a gauge cluster, 12-way power-adjustable seats, heated front and rear seats, reclining rear seats, a glass roof, four USB ports, video streaming capability, and Tesla’s Autopilot system. Cargo space is generous too, with under-floor storage in the rear and a front trunk. The main drawbacks are familiar ones: it lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the ride is firm, and almost all controls are handled through the touchscreen.

With 20.3% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively rather than rushing into the first example you see.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the car’s heavy reliance on software and touchscreen-based controls can make any repair or feature issue feel more disruptive than in a more conventional crossover.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Tesla Model Y?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be patient and still find a solid example.

• Deal availability: 20.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 64 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.19% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $49,922 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Tesla Model Y's resale value?

The current average of $51,386 CAD sits slightly below last year's $57,863 CAD.

That price trend suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper resale upside if you plan to sell in the near future. If you buy at the right price, you may have less room for depreciation shock than someone who paid closer to last year’s average. For a future seller, the key will be how well the vehicle holds demand against newer inventory and refreshed examples.

Should I buy a 2025 Tesla Model Y or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 20.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.19% compared with last year.

The bottom line: The 2025 is the better pick if you want the refreshed look, updated cabin, and the strongest mix of current-market value and features. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby year may still make sense, but the 2025 gives you a compelling balance of modern equipment and softened pricing.
