CarGurus Analysis: 2025 Subaru Impreza
Summary

Why it stands out
The 2025 Subaru Impreza stands out as a compact car that leans into Subaru’s core strengths: standard all-wheel drive, a reputation for safety, and a practical, value-focused approach. It sits at the entry point to the Subaru line-up, and the buying guide notes that Subaru vehicles tend to hold their value well, which can be a plus for owners but a challenge for used buyers. For shoppers who want an affordable compact car with all-weather traction, that combination remains a major part of its appeal.
What makes this generation distinctive is how much it changed the Impreza’s formula. The 2024 Subaru Impreza marked the start of the sixth generation and became available only as a five-door hatchback, with the manual transmission gone. It also brought a more rigid body structure, more technology, and the return of an RS trim. Two engines were available from launch: a 152-horsepower 2.0-litre boxer engine in the Convenience and Touring trims, and a 182-hp 2.5-litre boxer engine in the RS. The CVT is the only transmission, and Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite is standard.
Equipment is a strong point, especially for buyers who want modern connectivity and safety features without moving up to a larger vehicle. The base Convenience model includes heated front seats, dual 7-inch touchscreens, steering-responsive LED headlights, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Touring trim adds a vertical 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and paddle shifters. The RS adds a more powerful engine, 18-inch wheels, a power sunroof, a wireless phone charger, and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system. The main trade-off is that this generation is pricier than older Imprezas, with the baseline around $22,000 and low-kilometre examples of the RS reaching much higher.

Is the 2025 Subaru Impreza a good car?
The 2025 Subaru Impreza is a good fit if you want a compact car that prioritises standard all-wheel drive, safety, and everyday practicality. It sits at the entry point to Subaru’s line-up, and its value-focused approach makes the most sense for you if all-weather traction and useful equipment matter more than sporty character.
The 2025 model also benefits from a modern feature set for the class. The base trim includes heated front seats, dual 7-inch touchscreens, steering-responsive LED headlights, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while higher trims add a larger multimedia system, wireless smartphone integration, and more convenience features. The trade-off is price: this generation is more expensive than older Imprezas, so you’re paying for the newer design and equipment.
With 28.6% of listings priced as good or great deals, there is at least some market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2025 Subaru Impreza reliable?
The 2025 Subaru Impreza leans on Subaru’s reputation for safety and practical ownership, and its standard all-wheel drive adds to its appeal for year-round use. It is positioned as a sensible, value-focused compact car rather than a complicated performance model, which should suit you if you want straightforward daily transportation.
Subaru vehicles also tend to hold their value well, which can be reassuring if you plan to keep the car for a while. For used buyers, that same strength can mean you may need to work harder to find a good price on the right example.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Subaru Impreza?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop with patience and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 84 listings available.
That combination suggests you have some room to find a fair deal, but the best examples may still move quickly.
Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Impreza or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2025 if:
- 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Consider the 2024 if:
- It offers strong value, standard all-wheel drive, and a more affordable entry point.
The bottom line: If you want the newer Impreza with its updated equipment and you value standard all-wheel drive, the 2025 is the cleaner choice. If your priority is stretching your budget, the 2024 is the better path because it delivers the core Impreza strengths at a lower price.
