Why it stands out

The 2025 Subaru Impreza stands out as a compact car that leans into Subaru’s core strengths: standard all-wheel drive, a reputation for safety, and a practical, value-focused approach. It sits at the entry point to the Subaru line-up, and the buying guide notes that Subaru vehicles tend to hold their value well, which can be a plus for owners but a challenge for used buyers. For shoppers who want an affordable compact car with all-weather traction, that combination remains a major part of its appeal.

What makes this generation distinctive is how much it changed the Impreza’s formula. The 2024 Subaru Impreza marked the start of the sixth generation and became available only as a five-door hatchback, with the manual transmission gone. It also brought a more rigid body structure, more technology, and the return of an RS trim. Two engines were available from launch: a 152-horsepower 2.0-litre boxer engine in the Convenience and Touring trims, and a 182-hp 2.5-litre boxer engine in the RS. The CVT is the only transmission, and Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite is standard.

Equipment is a strong point, especially for buyers who want modern connectivity and safety features without moving up to a larger vehicle. The base Convenience model includes heated front seats, dual 7-inch touchscreens, steering-responsive LED headlights, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Touring trim adds a vertical 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and paddle shifters. The RS adds a more powerful engine, 18-inch wheels, a power sunroof, a wireless phone charger, and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system. The main trade-off is that this generation is pricier than older Imprezas, with the baseline around $22,000 and low-kilometre examples of the RS reaching much higher.
