Why it stands out
The 2025 Nissan Frontier is a midsize pickup truck with plenty of old-school appeal. It stands out for its V6 engine, body-on-frame construction, and competitive towing and payload ratings, which give it a traditional truck character that some buyers still prefer. Nissan also refines the look and feel of its only pickup, helping the Frontier feel a bit more polished without losing its straightforward personality.
For 2025, the Frontier gets several improvements that should help it better compete with newer rivals. All Canadian Frontiers come with more standard safety features and a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and towing capacity is up. More versions also offer a long cargo bed option. Those updates make the truck more appealing, especially alongside its comfortable front seats and higher sense of quality. Even so, its outdated technology, unimpressive safety ratings, and poor value for money remain important drawbacks for shoppers to consider.

Nice versatile truck with good leg room on the back seats for a midsize truck and a good simple V6 engine. Amazing truck.

Cars feature are outstanding and seems like a great value compared to other comparable mid-size (Taco, Ranger, Colorado, Canyon, etc). Wish the backseat was roomier/more comfortable for passengers, but its not bad at all. Wireless charging pad seems to heat up quick, but could be due to my phone case. Excellent mpg on highway.

Is the 2025 Nissan Frontier a good car?
Yes — the 2025 Nissan Frontier earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.
It is a midsize pickup with plenty of old-school appeal, and it stands out for its V6 engine, body-on-frame construction, and competitive towing and payload ratings. For you, that means a truck that leans into traditional capability rather than chasing the most modern driving experience.
The trade-offs are clear: outdated technology and poor value for money are the main drawbacks, and the truck’s safety score is also a weak point.
With 35.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you do have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2025 Nissan Frontier reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Frontier’s appeal comes from its straightforward, durable character: it uses a V6 engine, body-on-frame construction, and traditional knobs and buttons rather than a heavily digitised setup. The expert assessment also describes it as solidly built, with a higher sense of quality in its materials and construction.
Its powertrain is presented as robust and durable, and the truck’s old-school layout may suit you if you prefer simple controls and a conventional pickup feel. The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that its ageing technology and safety shortcomings may matter more as the truck gets older.
What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Nissan Frontier?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Frontier is available in SV, PRO-4X, and SL trim levels. The base setup is light on the more polished features you get as you move up, while the higher trims add more refinement and equipment.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.8-litre V6 engine with 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. All Canadian Frontiers feature standard shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case.
- Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard, and it includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and rear automatic braking. Adaptive cruise control is also standard, while a surround-view camera system with an off-road mode is newly standard beginning at the SL.
- Infotainment: Every Canadian Frontier gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and NissanConnect services. A complimentary three-year subscription to the Premium services plan is included, and a Wi-Fi hotspot is available with an active data plan.
- Fuel efficiency: The Frontier PRO-4X Luxury is expected to achieve 12.7 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, and the test truck averaged 12.5 L/100 km on a mountainous evaluation loop. In heavy city traffic, it returned 15.0 L/100 km, close to its 14.0 L/100 km city rating.
Which 2025 Nissan Frontier trim should I buy?
The 2025 Nissan Frontier is offered in 3 trim levels: SV, PRO-4X, and SL.
Here's the short version:
- SV: This is the entry point if you want the Frontier’s core V6, standard 4WD, and updated infotainment without paying for the more specialised trims. It makes the most sense if you want the truck’s traditional character and can live without the extra off-road or luxury equipment.
- PRO-4X: This is the best-value choice if you want the Frontier’s off-road hardware and a more distinctive setup. It adds a modified suspension with Bilstein shocks, an electronic locking rear differential, front and underbody skid plates, and all-terrain tyres.
- SL: Choose this if you want the most polished Frontier experience. It adds more comfort and convenience equipment, including the surround-view camera system with off-road mode and traffic sign recognition.
Safety Shield 360 is standard across the lineup, and the surround-view camera system with off-road mode becomes standard beginning at the SL.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Nissan Frontier?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.
- Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 53 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.14% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $55,044 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2025 Nissan Frontier's resale value?
The current average of $55,044 CAD sits slightly below last year's $56,250 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market is giving buyers a bit more leverage today than it was a year ago. If you plan to sell later, that means your return will depend heavily on how well your truck is equipped, maintained, and priced against similar listings.
The Frontier’s traditional appeal may help it hold interest with shoppers who want a V6-powered, body-on-frame pickup. But its weaker value proposition and ageing technology could limit how strongly it stands out if the market shifts toward newer rivals.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2025 Nissan Frontier safe?
The 2025 Frontier earns a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side-impact crash tests, but three-star driver protection and three-star rollover resistance ratings are causes for concern.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard, and it includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and rear automatic braking. Adaptive cruise control is also standard, and a surround-view camera system with an off-road mode becomes standard beginning at the SL.
The safety picture is mixed because the Frontier’s crash-test results are not especially strong, and the expert assessment also notes that the lane-departure warning system can issue false alerts. That makes safety a key area to weigh carefully if you are shopping used.
Should I buy a 2025 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2025 if:
- 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.14% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds more standard safety features and a new 12.3-inch touchscreen.
Consider the 2026 if:
- It adds extra standard equipment, including a newly standard drive mode selector.
The bottom line: If you want the better shopping opportunity, the 2025 is the stronger pick because pricing has eased and inventory is available. If you are willing to wait for a slightly newer truck with a bit more standard equipment, the 2026 is worth a look; otherwise, the 2025 remains the more price-sensitive choice.
