Is the 2025 MINI Countryman a good car?

The 2025 MINI Countryman earns an 6.8/10 expert rating, and it stands out most for its personality, style, and usable space.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It is available as a small crossover SUV that can comfortably hold rear-seat passengers, carries a competitive amount of cargo, and remains fun to drive. The trade-off is refinement: it is rough around the edges, with dissatisfying steering, poor ride quality, and unintuitive technology.

Cons: Dissatisfying steering; poor ride quality.

With 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 MINI Countryman reliable?

The 2025 MINI Countryman is presented as a well-equipped, characterful crossover with BMW engineering and technology, but it is also described as rough around the edges.

Its powertrain is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The expert notes say it is quick and nimble, but also that the powertrain lacks refinement, the shifting can feel clunky, and the ride can be brittle and choppy on anything but smooth pavement.

On the ownership side, the Countryman’s quirks and complexity mean you should expect a more involved used-car experience than with a mainstream compact SUV. For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is mainly about living with its refinement issues and technology complexity rather than simple, low-stress transportation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 MINI Countryman?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Countryman S is the popular choice, while the John Cooper Works model offers the most power and performance. The SE is the electric model. The Favoured style adds a bolder look, and the Premier+ package is standard on the JCW.
• Powertrain: The Countryman S uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. It is quick and nimble, but refinement is not its strong suit.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring with active steering input, automatic high-beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and Mini Assist eCall with an SOS button and automatic collision notification. Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability is available with the Driving Assistant Professional upgrade in the Premier+ package.
• Infotainment: The Countryman uses a round 9.4-inch OLED touchscreen, with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, cloud-based navigation with augmented video, and over-the-air connected services. The menu structure is deep and can be frustrating to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The official estimate is 8.7 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 9.6 L/100 km.

Which 2025 MINI Countryman trim should I buy?

The 2025 MINI Countryman is offered in 3 trim levels: S All4, John Cooper Works All4, and electric SE All4.

Here's the short version:

• S All4: This is the popular choice and the best-value starting point if you want the Countryman’s style, standard all-wheel drive, and everyday usability without stretching to the pricier performance or electric versions.
• John Cooper Works All4: Choose this if you want the most power and performance, plus the more aggressive character that comes with the JCW model.
• SE All4: Pick this if you want the electric Countryman and its estimated 341-kilometre range.

The Premier+ package is standard on the JCW, and the Driving Assistant Professional upgrade adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 MINI Countryman?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 147 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.25% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $41,847 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 MINI Countryman's resale value?

The current average of $41,851 CAD sits slightly below last year's $49,969 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more selectively today, but it also means the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation. If you plan to resell later, the Countryman’s niche appeal may help it hold interest, but its used value will still depend heavily on trim, condition, and equipment.

Is the 2025 MINI Countryman safe?

The 2025 MINI Countryman earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring with active steering input, automatic high-beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and Mini Assist eCall with an SOS button and automatic collision notification.

Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability is available as part of the Driving Assistant Professional upgrade in the Premier+ package, and that system adds lane-centring assist. The lane-keep assist can be quite assertive, and the system may prompt you to apply more active steering input than you might expect.

Should I buy a 2025 MINI Countryman or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.25% compared with last year.
• It offers a redesigned look, standard all-wheel drive across the lineup, and a stronger mix of style, space, and fun-to-drive character.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $36,829 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $41,851 CAD average.
• It offers a familiar, stylish MINI crossover with personality and usability.

The bottom line: Buy the 2025 if you want the redesigned Countryman’s updated personality, standard AWD, and broader appeal. If you are price-sensitive and can live with the older formula, the 2024 is the smarter value play.
