Is the 2025 MINI Countryman a good car?

The 2025 MINI Countryman earns an 6.8/10 expert rating, and it is aimed at you if you value personality, distinctive styling, and a playful driving character more than polish.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It offers multiple powertrain options, a roomy-enough cabin for rear-seat passengers, and competitive cargo space for a small crossover. The trade-offs are clear: dissatisfying steering, poor ride quality, and unintuitive technology.

With 31.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2025 MINI Countryman reliable?

The 2025 MINI Countryman is presented as a well-equipped, redesigned small crossover with BMW engineering and technology, and its standard safety and driver-assistance suite is broad for the class.

Its powertrain is described as quick and nimble, but also rough around the edges, with clunky shifting and a lack of refinement that may matter in daily use. The technology is feature-rich, yet the interface is described as difficult to navigate, which can affect long-term satisfaction.

The performance notes also point to a fuel economy estimate of 8.7 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, which is respectable but not class-leading for a small crossover.

If you plan to keep one used for the long haul, the biggest ownership risk is that its quirks may wear on you faster than its style does.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 MINI Countryman?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Countryman S is the popular choice, the John Cooper Works model is the most powerful, and the SE is the electric version with an estimated 341 kilometres of range. The Favoured style adds a bolder look and a more distinctive cabin presentation, while the Premier+ package is standard on the JCW and brings more equipment. Base configurations may leave you wanting more of the visual flair and content that make this MINI feel special.
• Powertrain: The Countryman S uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. It is quick and nimble, but the drivetrain can feel clunky and less refined in stop-and-go driving.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring with active steering input, automatic high-beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and Mini Assist eCall with an SOS button and automatic collision notification. Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability is available as part of the Driving Assistant Professional upgrade in the Premier+ package.
• Infotainment: The Countryman uses a round 9.4-inch OLED touchscreen, and it includes wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, cloud-based navigation with augmented video, and over-the-air connected services. The interface is packed with features, but it can be frustrating to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The official estimate is 8.7 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 9.6 L/100 km.

Which 2025 MINI Countryman trim should I buy?

The 2025 MINI Countryman is offered in 3 trim levels: S All4, John Cooper Works All4, and electric SE All4.

Here's the short version:

• S All4: This is the best-value choice if you want the core Countryman experience. It gives you the playful styling, standard all-wheel drive, and the lively 241-horsepower turbocharged engine without pushing you into the priciest versions.
• John Cooper Works All4: Choose this if you want the most power and the most performance-focused setup. It is the top choice for buyers who care most about driving excitement and want the more aggressive character.
• SE All4: Pick this if you want the electric Countryman and its estimated 341-kilometre range. It is the right fit if you want the MINI look and feel with an EV powertrain.

The Premier+ package is standard on the JCW, and the Driving Assistant Professional upgrade adds adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 MINI Countryman?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 135 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.93% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $42,054 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 MINI Countryman's resale value?

The current average of $42,054 CAD sits slightly below last year's $50,623 CAD.

That price drop suggests the model has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means sellers may face more competition than they did a year ago. If you own one, strong presentation and the right trim or equipment will matter more when it comes time to resell. For future buyers, the softer pricing can make this a more appealing entry point into MINI ownership.

Is the 2025 MINI Countryman safe?

The 2025 MINI Countryman earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring with active steering input to avoid a collision, automatic high-beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and Mini Assist eCall with an SOS button and automatic collision notification.

Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability is available as part of the Driving Assistant Professional upgrade in the Premier+ package, and that system also adds lane-centring assist. The lane-keep assist can be assertive, and the system may prompt you to keep your hands on the wheel even when they are already there.

Should I buy a 2025 MINI Countryman or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.93% compared with last year.
• It offers a redesigned cabin, more space, and a distinctive personality with standard all-wheel drive.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $36,941 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $42,054 CAD average.
• It is a familiar, playful compact crossover with a well-known package.

The bottom line: Choose the 2025 if you want the newer design, more space, and the latest MINI character. If your priority is saving money, the 2024 is the better value play, especially if you can live with the older formula.
