Is the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz a good car?

The 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz earns an 8/10 expert rating and is aimed at you if you want pickup versatility in a smaller, more urban-friendly package.

The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

It is positioned for weekend DIY projects, hauling bulky items from the big-box store, and carrying adventure gear on day trips. The upside is that it feels fun to drive and brings impressive technology, but the trade-offs include styling that may not appeal to everyone, a cramped back seat, and limited cargo space.

From the expert test drive, the main drawbacks are on-pavement handling with all-terrain tyres and a cramped back seat. Even so, 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz reliable?

The 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz is presented as a well-equipped, warranty-backed small truck that focuses on everyday usefulness rather than heavy-duty work. Its expert assessment highlights strong technology, a fun driving character, and a good warranty, which all support confidence for normal ownership.

The powertrain is described as robust and able to run on regular gas, which helps keep day-to-day operating costs straightforward. The tech package is also broad, with connected services and over-the-air updates helping keep the vehicle current.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is still a compact truck with some compromises, so you should pay close attention to how the transmission, brakes, and ride quality feel on a test drive.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes Preferred, XRT, and Ultimate. The base trim gets the core truck-and-tech package, while the XRT adds a more rugged look and extra off-road-oriented hardware, and the Ultimate brings the most upscale equipment. The biggest feature gaps at the lower end are the more advanced camera and driver-assistance features.
• Powertrain: All trims use a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with standard all-wheel drive. The engine runs on regular gas, and the XRT is the least efficient version at 11.1 L/100 km combined, while the Preferred and Ultimate are rated at 10.7 L/100 km combined.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist. The XRT adds intersection collision braking, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot cameras, and adaptive cruise control with automatic speed adjustment for curves, while Highway Driving Assist is standard on the Ultimate.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluelink connected services, and over-the-air software updates. Wireless smartphone charging is standard on the XRT and Ultimate.
• Fuel efficiency: The Preferred and Ultimate are rated at 10.7 L/100 km combined, while the XRT is rated at 11.1 L/100 km combined.

Which 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz trim should I buy?

The 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz is offered in 3 trim levels: Preferred, XRT, and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the trim to start with if you want the Santa Cruz’s core appeal at the lowest entry point. You still get the standard turbocharged engine, all-wheel drive, the 12.3-inch infotainment system, and the full base safety suite, so it covers the essentials well.
• XRT: This is the best-value trim if you want the Santa Cruz to lean more rugged. It adds the more aggressive styling, improved approach angle, all-terrain tyres, surround-view camera system, blind-spot cameras, adaptive cruise control with curve-speed adjustment, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Ultimate: This is the one to choose if you want the most complete version and better on-road manners. It adds Highway Driving Assist and is the trim the experts would pick over the XRT for its better on-road driving dynamics.

The XRT and Ultimate both add extra safety and convenience features beyond the base trim, so those are the trims to focus on if you want the strongest equipment mix.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 139 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.63% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $37,857 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz's resale value?

The current average of $37,857 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,893 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Santa Cruz is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago. If you plan to sell later, you should expect the market to reward well-equipped, well-kept examples more than average ones.

For you as a future seller, the current trend means depreciation has already moved the market down from last year’s level. A clean truck with desirable equipment should still hold appeal, but you may need to price competitively to stand out.

Is the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz safe?

The 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz earns a Marginal rating in the latest IIHS moderate overlap frontal-impact assessment, and the driver assistance technologies receive that same rating for their effectiveness in preventing a front crash. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Santa Cruz the highest five-star rating in each collision evaluation, coupled with a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist. Starting with the XRT trim, you also get intersection collision braking, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot cameras, and adaptive cruise control with automatic speed adjustment for curves. Highway Driving Assist is standard on the Ultimate trim.

The main safety caveat is the IIHS Marginal result, which is worth keeping in mind if crash-test performance is a top priority for you.

Should I buy a 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.63% compared with last year.
• It adds new tech, styling updates, and off-roading enhancements while staying fun to drive.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $35,746 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $37,857 CAD average.
• It offers familiar utility, a peppy powertrain, and a strong warranty.

The bottom line: Choose the 2025 if you want the latest tech and the most up-to-date Santa Cruz experience. If your priority is saving money, the 2024 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in good condition with the equipment you want.
