Is the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz a good car?

The 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz earns an 8/10 expert rating, and it is aimed at you if you want pickup versatility in a smaller, more urban-friendly package for weekend DIY projects, hauling bulky items, and carrying adventure gear on day trips.

The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

It is also described as fun to drive, with impressive technology and a great warranty among its strengths. The main trade-offs are a cramped back seat and limited cargo space, plus styling that may not appeal to everyone.

With 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz reliable?

The 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz is presented as a well-equipped, warranty-backed small truck that leans into everyday usefulness rather than hard-use towing or remote travel. Its turbocharged engine runs on regular gas, and the model’s tech and safety equipment are a clear part of its appeal.

The performance notes point to a lively powertrain, but also mention a quirky dual-clutch transmission and some brake heat during demanding downhill driving. Hyundai’s strong warranty helps offset some ownership anxiety, but used buyers should still pay close attention to how the transmission, brakes, and all-terrain-tire setup feel in real-world driving.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes Preferred, XRT, and Ultimate. The base trim gives you the core Santa Cruz formula, while the XRT adds a more rugged look and extra off-road-oriented hardware, and the Ultimate brings the most upscale equipment and better on-road driving dynamics.
• Powertrain: All trims use a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with standard all-wheel drive. The engine runs on regular gas, but the transmission behaviour and all-terrain-tire setup on the XRT can affect smoothness and road feel.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist. The XRT adds intersection collision braking, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot cameras, and adaptive cruise control with automatic speed adjustment for curves, while the Ultimate adds Highway Driving Assist.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluelink connected services, and over-the-air software updates. Wireless smartphone charging is standard on the XRT and Ultimate.
• Fuel efficiency: The Preferred and Ultimate are rated at 10.7 L/100 km combined, while the XRT is rated at 11.1 L/100 km combined.

Which 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz trim should I buy?

The 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz is offered in 3 trim levels: Preferred, XRT, and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the trim to start with if you want the Santa Cruz’s core strengths without paying for the more specialised hardware. You still get the turbocharged engine, standard AWD, the 12.3-inch infotainment system, and the full base safety suite.
• XRT: This is the best-value choice if you want the more rugged look and extra equipment. It adds the improved approach angle, all-terrain tires, surround-view camera system, blind-spot cameras, adaptive cruise control with curve speed adjustment, and wireless charging.
• Ultimate: Choose this if you want the most complete version of the Santa Cruz and care most about on-road refinement. It adds Highway Driving Assist and is the trim the experts would pick over the XRT for better on-road driving dynamics.

The XRT and Ultimate trims also add safety and convenience features that are not standard on the Preferred.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly when you find a strong one.

• Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 139 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.70% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $37,861 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz's resale value?

The current average of $37,861 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,927 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Santa Cruz has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average. For resale, condition, mileage, and trim choice will matter a lot because the market is already pricing in some depreciation.

Is the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz safe?

The 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz earns a Marginal rating in the latest IIHS moderate overlap frontal-impact assessment, and the driver assistance technologies receive that same rating for their effectiveness in preventing a front crash. It earns five-star ratings in each NHTSA collision evaluation, along with a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist. Starting with the XRT, you also get intersection collision braking, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot cameras, and adaptive cruise control with automatic speed adjustment for curves. Highway Driving Assist is standard on the Ultimate.

The IIHS result is the main caution here, especially if you are prioritising crash-avoidance performance in a used truck.

Should I buy a 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.70% compared with last year.
• The 2025 adds new tech, styling updates, and off-roading enhancements.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $35,745 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $37,861 CAD average.
• It blends pickup utility with a compact, quirky shape and a strong warranty.

The bottom line: If you want the newest tech and the most up-to-date version of the Santa Cruz, the 2025 is the better pick. If your priority is saving money and you still want the Santa Cruz formula, the 2024 is the smarter value play.
