Is the 2025 BMW i4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert test drive data describes the i4 as a top-notch EV with impressive reliability, and it also highlights the car’s strong everyday usability and refined driving character. The performance notes suggest the single-motor setup delivers the longest range in the lineup, while still feeling responsive in normal driving.

BMW’s Plug & Charge convenience also makes public charging simpler, which can reduce day-to-day ownership friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the battery and charging system have been cared for properly, since EV ownership depends heavily on how the car was charged and maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW i4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The i4’s design and cabin updates are subtle, so you should focus on the equipment differences that matter to you, especially the feature gaps between lower and higher trims and the way the available packages change the car’s character.
• Powertrain: The single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup is the longest-range version, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive models add traction and stronger acceleration. You should decide whether range or performance matters more to you.
• Safety package: BMW includes forward collision warning and automatic high beams as standard, while other driver aids may depend on the model or package. The Advanced Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centring assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, emergency stop assist, and Traffic Jam Assistant.
• Infotainment: The i4 uses a 12.3-inch driver display paired with a 14.9-inch touchscreen, and the 2025 model adds iDrive 8.5 with Quick Select, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
• Range & charging: The single-motor version can deliver up to 512 km of range with standard 18-inch wheels, or 475 km with 19-inch wheels. The battery is 81 kWh, and DC fast charging took 30 minutes to reach an 80% charge in testing.
• Battery health: As with any used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, ask how the car was typically charged at home versus on DC fast chargers, and confirm how much of the battery warranty remains.

Which 2025 BMW i4 trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW i4 is offered in 4 trim levels: eDrive35, eDrive40, xDrive40, M50.

Here's the short version:

• eDrive35: This is the entry point and the one to focus on if you want the lowest-cost path into the i4 lineup. It is also the version positioned to qualify for provincial and territorial EV rebate programs where they still exist.
• eDrive40: This is the best-value choice for most buyers because it combines the longest range with rear-wheel-drive character and strong everyday performance.
• xDrive40: Choose this if you want dual-motor all-wheel drive and the added traction that comes with it.
• M50: Pick this if you want the performance-tuned dual-motor AWD model and are willing to pay for the extra capability.

The Advanced Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control and Driving Assistant Professional, so it is the safety package to look for if you want the fullest driver-assistance feature set.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW i4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 103 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $67,338 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW i4's resale value?

The current average of $70,642 CAD sits slightly below last year's $70,988 CAD.

That small decline suggests the i4 has been holding value fairly steadily rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For you as a future seller, that can be a positive sign because it points to a market that is still willing to pay for the car’s mix of luxury, utility, and EV appeal.

The i4’s distinctive body style and strong technology package should help keep it relevant with used buyers. If demand stays steady and inventory remains reasonable, resale values should remain relatively resilient.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 BMW i4 safe?

The BMW i4 earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips every i4 with forward collision warning and automatic high beams as standard. Depending on the model, other features are either standard or available in a package, including automatic emergency braking, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.

The Advanced Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control as well as Driving Assistant Professional, which includes lane-centring assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and emergency stop assist. The Traffic Jam Assistant, also included with this package, is a hands-free driving feature for use on limited-access highways at speeds under 60 km/h.

The expert test drive data also notes that the lane-keeping system can misread pavement scars, and the automatic braking technology can mistake parked cars for obstacles. Crash-test ratings from NHTSA and IIHS were incomplete at the time of writing.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW i4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2025 model year brings subtle design updates, a new infotainment system, and Plug & Charge convenience.

The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date i4 experience, the 2025 model is the one to target because it adds meaningful tech improvements without changing the car’s core appeal. If you are more price-sensitive, you can keep an eye on older examples, but the 2025’s stable pricing and strong inventory make it a sensible place to start.
